I've just ordered a Safari snorkel for my 100series Cruiser 4.5 litre petrol , but have heard it may cause problems with the computer chip . Anyone know of any dramas with fitting these ?

Same here. Not sure about the petrol.
You could try the LCOOL forum.

The biggest drama with fitting them is the sweat pouring off your brow as you stress about putting a 100mm or so holesaw through your quarter panel....

No Good, without a hiclone inserted in the snorkel to swirl the air to take advantage of the bernouli effect! ;o)

Oh yeah - you need a rare earth magnet on your fuel line as well to align the molecules for a better burn!

You need to add the Safari computer chip to match the Safari snorkel, - you did read their Safari website yes?

Cheers

The fitting instructions tell you to use a certain type of sealer around some joins because fumes from the wrong types can affect some of the sensors on the engine.

I rang Safari and they told me to use Permatex Ultra Black. It was readily available at Supacheap.

I just had a look at the tube that I used and the exact words used by Safari are not written on it but they were on the box that it came in. They were something like "sensor safe" or very similar to that.

This is most likely what is behind the story you heard.

There is an actual sealant called "sensor safe" It is recomended to use this as the smell from other sealants can cause errors with some sensors. If running LPG you will require a balance tube from the snorkel back to the convertor under the bonnet, if you dont have the balance tube with LPG it will run like a pig or not at all on the LPG. Make sure you also use an anti rust preventative on all panels where you either cut or drill. The biggest part is measure up using the template supplied and recheck and recheck again. As mentioned above the worst part is watching that hole saw going through the guard. Worst case senario is a new guard if you stuff up. Also double check the template supplied and make sure its the one to suit your vehicle. Everyone makes mistakes but not one you want to do. WHG

There is a thread on Lcool on how to use some 90mm poly pipe inside the guard to allow more air thru to the air filter.
Have done mine Dont know if it makes a lot of difference but as I have a Safari Dtronic in it it has the berries OK.
Here is the thread U may have to register to read it.

Cost of parts the reducer and the bend about $65 600mm 90mm poly pipe ???? Pinch a bit off neighbours downpipe

http://www.lcool.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2191&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

The part numbers are 3316616S and 3316567S as marked on the items in the pics They are available from Diesel spares Outlets and are Fleetguard products

Hi
I run a 2004 V8 petrol 100 series. Had the same snorkel fitted by ARB. Done 70,000 kms on petrol no problems at all. Then I had LPG injection system installed , have done 30,000kms on LPG goes great . Neither ARB or the gas fitter did any mods to snorkel.
50% of the Kms is towing a 2.5 tonne van.

Regards
Norm
