From outers: (pretty much what I've been sayin for years!)

Went to Melb 4X4 Show yesterday at 4pm and I was on my way home by 7pm.

Could play golf down the isles....

Quality displays are thinning out and there are more of the shoe shine and wine tasting. Only 2 sites selling boats and 1 caravan display. Fishing and 4WD both way down.

Where did everyone go????????

Bruce,

As a business who has attended many of these such shows I will tell you why displays are dropping off.

The sites are horrendously expensive, the work invlolved is bloody hard and the outcomes minimal. ie they're not worth the effort.

I'll probably do Wandin again this year as the price is OK and it's only one day. Plus you can lob there the night before.

Jim.

Having travelled there from near Traralgon, I was extremely disappointed.
In fact I now have an Anderson Plug, that in effect cost me $98.00, as that was the only thing of interest.
Where were the vehicle manufacturers?
The whole show to me, looked sparse & spread out to try & fill the area.

"But Alas only 2 boat shops at the show and much smaller boating area than normal. The boat is still on the list and might have to wait another year now.... "

Shagger Hunt has been advertising it all week on radio as the 4wd and Fishing Expo, or similar.

Yep, much the same for the recent Adelaide 4X4 show. One exhibitor thought it might be the last show as the turn up was pretty dismal. Still for the last few years they have put it down in an area that is not centrally located. If you live north of the city it's an hour drive to get there and $15 bucks to get in.

Not a great deal of anything new to see really and if you've been going to these shows for many years you tend to see the same old stuff over and over again.
Highlight of the show was the helicopter rides.

ditto that...but as i did it in working time it was a benefit

displays were down on last years

the one at the show grounds seems to be the better one of the two

The one GOOD thing about the recent show in adelaide was that the lack of people actually made it possible to actually talk to the exhibitors about their products, but have to agree the show at the showgrounds was better.

Yeh we went last night also, was dissapointed with the displays and who was displaying what, rays normally have 9/10ths of a store there but all they had was a few rods, tents and a couple of cheapo campers! the only 2 highlights was watching the ARB hilux run back and forward on the test rig and the second was the free tickets!!!! some retailers were showing display stuff for sale but didnt even have that item there! mmm not good this year. Don't know about all you guys. There was a new model of some thing I was interested in, and quite a few interesting things. Spent a few dollars, one Chrissie pressie acquired for a littlie. I saw one for me too ;-)))

Crowds were down according to exhibiters but I guess the economic environment is testing quite a few. Lots of retirees on lower incomes with the state of the market.

I can walk out of the fishing area quiickly.

Truckster
We are off to the Show, from Wonthaggi, in a couple of hours.

But are using it to catch up with friends, and to have a general "geek" around, and pick up info, on the Canning, and the Kimberley's, and general 4X4 goodies.

Last time we went, was in '04, and then I thought that some of the stuff was over the top, price wise !..Never mind though, it's a day out.

Cheers
Bucky
