My GQ has always had the turning circle of the Queen Mary until my brother pointed out a couple of bolts on the rear of the ball joints. I adjusted these right in and hey presto I can suddenly manage U turns at traffic lights. But my concern is: will I chew out my CV joints from excessive turn angles? Why were they set to such a poor turning circle in the first place?
(Note I have tried to post this on the Nissan Patrol
Forum, but still can't get into it.)
Cheers
Graeme

They are usually set like that for a reason and excessive angle will be one of them. Tyre scrubbing will be another.
In saying that we have 6 identical buses and we have to do a U turn at the end of a street with markers round the edge of the turning circle. One bus just gets around if you get it exactly right. The others have varying clearances. The best is over a meter inside the worst one. So much for identical.

I have had the same experience as you and I can tell you the GU Patrol and Navara are no different. I have owned the three of them and complained to Nissan about it when I had the GQ, I was told that's the way it is. I also had a look at adjusting it myself but decided against it because of the effect it may have on the CV joints and power steering. Regards ,,,Nav.

My old GQ had an OK turning circle, it was never great but it was not too bad either.
I had some work done on the
suspension and when it came back it was hopeless. A mate pointed out the bolts so I adjusted them until it was turning as it had previously. This was a bit hit and miss but it ended up about the same.
Anyway I forgot all about it until you posted this. The last thing that broke on the GQ before I sold it was the drag link. It is apparently not uncommon on GQ's that have worked hard.
Mine stripped a nut and the ball joint popped out but most of them break the ball joint.
When I was looking for a replacement about 90% of them had severe scoring on the ball joint behind the rubber boot. I wonder if this was caused by excessive turn angles adn is the reason the Queen Mary turns so tight, relatively.
I don't know just raising it as a possible answer to your question Graeme
