Hi, yes, another firdge quesiton, sorry. As a novice of most things 12v, I'm looking for any feedback from current / previous users of the Tomahawk Ezycool 12v fridge. The spec sheet says it draws an average of 2.5A for a 55L fridge which is fine, but do they last? It has a Maki compressor, made in Japan. We do mostly sand 4WD-ing - Fraser, Straddie, Moreton etc so it will take a few bumps in the back of the Paj on our trips. Any info would be appreciated.

These are Beier fridges from China and run a Chinese Domus compressor. I have one in the store room that has been tested after purchase from Tomahawk via Ebay. Running current is 6 amps with a duty cycle of around 35% due to the thin wall. The cover bags are just a cover and offer no insulation. The one that was delivered to use was damaged, we tried a claim and was told that I should return it (at our cost) to 'Storage King' on the NSW North Coast.

I have full set of strip and inspect photos if you need them, I will be back in to office on the 29th.

You may be better buying the same fridge from Down Under or Repco if you are determined to buy that unit.

Regards

Derek.

Hi

Am I to take it then that the equally as cheap Companion fridges are not much chop either? They were the others on the "spend less money" list. From where I sit, Engels are too dear and Waecos tend to play up, or so I hear. This may be due to Waecos being more prevalent in the market too of course. All I'd like to know is, bang for buck, what's a decent, low amp draw 12/240 volt fridge that won't be on a bench getitng fixed more than it's on the road?

Hi Derek
Thanks for your feedback. I am also looking at a Sidewinder so nice to hear from you! It's like anything I guess, you get what you pay for. I'm heading off camping for 3 weeks at Xmas and am exploring options for fridges, hoping to save dollars on eBay, the Tomahawk looked like a good price, so here I am checking their bonafides. Appreciate your view, how do I go down the Sidewinder track, your store or on the Net?

Hi Grant

I would suggest you check the specs of each fridge in your price range and also see what configuration suits your needs.

I do not aim to influence your decision just tried to stop you making a mistake with the Tomahawk.

Have a look at Engel 57L Combi, Evakool Yellow 50L and the Bushman. The Bushman run the same ACC compressor as our ABR-Sidewinder Fridge/Freezer.

Regards

Derek.

No probs Derek, appreciate your openness. The old fella at Bushman tried to do the hard sell on me at the Brisbane Caravan and Camping show a couple of months back. Honestly, I swore he was trying to sell me a used car! I don't doubt the claims he made about his fridges, but the way he went about ramming the specs down my throat put me off him and his fridges! I'm not a fan of the various collars in the Bushmans either to be honest, I'd like one casing. Evakool and Sidewinder will be the comparo, Engels are just too dear bang for buck.
Thanks again.
