Afternoon to you all.Perth now has 2 Ray's Outdoors stores that opened this week. Visited the Cannington one this morning, good concept from what I could see. Question is how do they compare price wise (overall), compared with the other National stores; being Annaconda, & BCF?

Duncs,

I'm a member at both. Anaconda certainly have a lot more sales and in general, I find they have better deals on their camping equipment. Rays have the 25% off sales for members every now and then and this is the best time to stock up. Ray's tend to have a better range of specific camping equipment than Anaconda. Anaconda have had much better deals on Fridges but having said that, I've rung Ray's who've matched the Anaconda price. I've bought both my fridges from Rays. Some of the Anaconda gear have some quality issues (mattereses and sleeping bags in particular). Spent a fortune at both of them so who cares.

Cheers Mick

Thanks Mick. the store does look like a big boys toy shop. Rays is very handy and also next door to BCF. Anaconda for me is a cut lunch and water bag trip away. The annoying thing with Anoconda is that their Member sales are only on Thursday Nights and when they are in the North West of the Perth Metro & I'm in the South East it makes for a long trip after work.

Keep in mind who you are supporting when going the the NATIONAL Brands. BCF is owned by Super Cheap Auto. Ananconda is originally from canada I believe

Rangers are owned and run by locals , so I always support them, we cant let the country be run by national businesses, besides I find rangers and other smaller ones have a better range and better service.

We have a small retail surfshop ourslves, and know full well the impact of the Nationals, as they dictate prices from suppliers, also dont utilise the distributors. But yes you are right competition is good, and I think the smaller stores (Rangers etc.) have improved their range and have good people who know what camping etc. is really about. BCF staff have reduced and whilst they may know a bot about the product, they wouldnt know to use it

Anaconda is actually owned by Spotlight.

I would suggest becoming an Anaconda Club member which doesn't cost you anything. Also become a Ray's member which also doesn't cost you anything.

Anaconda members receive both emails and catalogues in the post and Ray's can send you emails about promotions coming up.

Discounts :-

Ray's - Usually 6.5% - 7.50% however, they do have their 26.5% sales which are great.

Anaconda sales discounts range from 10% up to 50 and even 60% off.

Duncan, give yourself some options and you can ten consider where best to spend your hard earned.

Cheers.

Paul I've been a member of both Anaconda & BCF since they opened in Perth. No doubt will become a member of Ray's in the not to distant future.

Dunc,

You can buy cheap imported junk on ebay or you can buy it from a fat bloke who imports it with one of his brands imprinted on it, at a premium.

Your choice.

As ever,

Jim.

Jim the sad truth is that most of the gear we all use are imports and 90% come from some Asian port.
Fortunately there are still some genuine local manufacturers of 4wd and camping gear.

Any of these places give real service and know what us 4by's and campers want? Don't disregard our local guys that know the ins and outs, or we will end up with coles/woolrip's with people serving have no idea what we want.
