Took some other tourists for a run over to the WWII Airfield Fenton yesterday and this was on the strip, the Airfield was used by the RAAF and USAAF 380th Bomb Group "The Flying Circus" during the war .

That bloke in the plane wont be able to see a dang thing with such a big black UHF antenna on the front like that!

We drove into McDonald last year when we were between Katherine and Darwin, it was a great experience to see whats is actually OUT THERE

We just turned left at the sign and drove out there. Didnt know how far or what we were to see. Bitumen rd in good condition most of the way and just as I was thinking hmm we've gone too far there it was, an airstrip and a heap of history, the kids were impressed too

I have heard that you can land there, but it has the most expensive fees in Australia.
I think Malcolm Douglas drove in on one of his shows.

Yes. In 2007 stayed at McGowans for a week. One of the guys helping run the place (J.C. Wales) got the ok from locals in Kalumburu to take us across in the boats he uses to take groups fishing. It was being used then as a base for the offshore rigs but no problems with us going and looking around. We had earlier tried to get one of the advertised tours there from Kununurra, but they were not happening because the locals in Kalumburu who were supposed to be doing the leg from there across to Truscott had no got off their butts and got organised. Reckon we were lucky that JC was interested in going there himself.

Doug, I can't believe that you haven't heard of Malcolm Douglas, particularly as you keep us posted on things from the past.
Malcolm was along the lines of the Leyland Brothers, Jack Absalom , Harry Butler etc.

Have a HEREpoke around

I heard some where that oil & gas exploring & exporting companies use Truscott to send supplies to the coast to be taken to offshore oil platforms.Dont know if this is correct?Someone on the forum will know.
