We spent most of yesterday at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne after son number one crashed his car on the way to work.
He'll be ok in a while, but god he's a bit of a mess.

Please.....tell your kids to slow down. They think they're bullet-proof but as it turns out, they're not. If I can get through to just one, I would be happy. Hopefully we've got through to ours.

Take care.

Sorry to hear about your son mate, I hope he will be up and on the mend real soon. And yeh, hopefully he now understands.

Unfortunately, it takes them having an accident or losing their own close friends to speeding before they start to understand that we aren't all a bunch of naggers and there might be some truth to what we say.

Doug/Jeannie,

Generally, once they've had their first crash they tend to realise thay are not bulletproof. Unfortunately some don't get a second chance.

Both our boys had one in the first year of driving, luckily not hurt.

Cheers,

Jim.

Treasure him dont lecture him, youre lucky to have him still. Good to hear that he will mend, its a crappy thing to have to bury a child, let alone two.

It’s a funny world Bonz… some time ago I said that if we look hard enough it’s possible to find good things coming out of bad things – something I firmly believe.

I have just realised a good thing to come out of your tragedy; your personal strength, resilience, dignity and ability to continue with life have been an invaluable lesson to others, especially me perhaps, and I thank you for that.

Mike thanx for that there's more positives to come out of it too and I have seen other people benefit from what I have been thru. The world is a funny place, and Magic's experience too will benefit others in the years to come, if only his other children and their friends.

I am so sorry to hear of your news Doug and Jeannie. Thank god he is going to be OK.

Bonz, you also have my deepest sympathies as having also lost a son in the recent past I too understand your comments. A parent should never have to bury their children.

Jeannie, on the bright side, your son has now been through a valuable experience albeit a traumatic one and come through alive. If he remembers this experience for the rest of his life he will always drive more carefully. Happened to me when I was young and carefree and I have always driven within my capabilities ever since.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you Doug and Jeannie.

Thanks Paul and everyone else for your support.

At times like these people really step up and are there for you - even on this forum.

We've spent another day at the hospital and after surgery, he's doing alot better and is alot brighter.

Funnily enough he's now talking about ditching Commodores for a "little rice burner with airbags"!!! Hope it lasts and his daft mates don't talk him round.

Thanks again all.

Doug and Jeannie

I agree with all the other comments here so far.

I think that it is important for young people to have good role models to learn from but looking at the speed of overloaded vehicles and trailers encountered on the Cape York peninsula a couple of months ago I despair. We must all do our part in trying to keep the speed down.

i used to work with 4 apprentices aged about 21 years old, in a 3 month period they all had car accidents, the one common thing to come out of it was that they all reckoned it wasn't their fault. one kid tried to speed up the inside of another car and hit a vehicle parked in the inside lane, amazingly he reckoned this wasn't his fault.
denial is not a river in egpyt, accidents happen for a reason, hopefully your boy realises how lucky he was, mends quickly with no side effects and has learnt a very valuable lesson.

I used to work with blokes who were constantly repairing their cars or themselves. Two with broken necks, some broken legs, cut faces and other body damage. Dont know how these guys are still alive. Some 20 years later one is still driving like a lunatic I heard.

I have always driven to the law my grandfather taught me when I first got my licence. He helped construct most of the original Midlands Highway in Tasmania so he knew a bit about roads.

"Mate, there's no such thing as a dangerous bit of road..........if you're going slow enough."

Funny thing is that the COPS are trying their bloody best to stop these young blokes acting like they are bullet proof...but there has been a number of recent threads on here arguing that the COPS are purely revenue raising.

I will say it again, they are not revenue raising, just ask someone that is a victim, or the relative of a person who has been killed or injured in a motor vehicle collision.

It's one or the other folks !!

Personally, I say...book 'em all Dano !! (if they are doing something wrong)

Hope your boy has learnt a valuable lesson in life and that he is OK.
