Anyone using EePc with Ozi Exp with a remote touch screen?Want a system which can stand rough roads ,corrugations etc but insufficent room on the Landy dash area to have an eepc where readily visible thus the need for a lilliput or similar touch screen and the computer will then be mounted out of sight eg in console or under it.
Cheers,
Mary

Hi Mary

There is a _wealth_ of eeePC knowledge on that site. I suggest you register and log on to the appropriate forum and ask your question, you'll receive far more knowledgeable answers than from a general forum such as this.

PS. The ePC is pretty small; if you're having trouble mounting it then you may have trouble with a touch screen too? Perhaps consider buying or making a bracket to mount the ePC near the dash?

I run ozi through a carputer under the passenger seat and touch screen on the dash. Forget about using the touch screen when moving - even on tarred roads you can't hit the right spot. I've put a mouse and small keyboard between the front seats (LC100TD) and configured the keyboards function keys for the features I use most. The keyboard is easy to use but the mouse is not much better than the touch screen - too much movement when travelling.

If I was doing it again the only thing I would change would be the screen. Apart from being impossible to use, a touch screen has more glare then a standard screen due to the overlay on the screen.

I also use the computer for two cameras, internet and email, and have loaded most of our music on it.

Thanks John,
really seeking a solution that will stay in the vehicle,Handle Ozi a couple of cameras internet and mail.Must be capable of working on the move in corrugated conditions but not necessarily use the screen whilst on the move-come to a standstill for that.Any suggestions for suppliers of equipment needed and approx cost would be very much appreciated.Eepc was fancied because feel it could handle rough conditions.
Would build the screen into a pod and hide the workings,
Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary - I will watch your post with interest - had the same thought as you for running Ozi.
There are 2 versions of the eePc - one runs Microsoft Windows (dearer), the other runs Linux. The new Ubuntu (Linux) comes out in a few days, but need to do an install and trial WINE, to see if it will run Ozi (with all its functionality).

If it does, then the eePc may be a very robust solution, at a reasonable price.

This is the computer I used - http://www.cdt.com.au/prod.asp?prod=CAR007 - it's permanently mounted under the passenger seat. The only moving part in it is the 2.5" hard drive. No fan - the whole case is a heat sink. My screen is from Jaycar - CAT. NO. QM3749 - 7" touch screen. This works well as it can take two camera feeds. I have some photos somewhere - will post them if you are interested.
