My boyfriend and I have had our van for 1month now, working in the shearing sheds, it is much more comfortable than some of the 'on farm' accommodation. We are currently in N.S.W heading down to Victoria to work till xmas then heading to W.A at xmas time for 6 months. Then hopefully if everything goes to plan drive around the top end back to N.S.W to start work again in July/August. I think we will live in our van for a few years as we are from Tasmania and New Zealand and cannot decide where we want to settle down. We have been travelling around like this now for 10 years now, so I am beginning to wonder if we even need a 'permanent' residence. Life is pretty good as it is! We still can't wait to get to the 'top end'!!!

Well Bonz, it is begginning to look like our bricks and mortar will be a deck built on to the side of our van in our bush block in Tassie, ha ha. Each time we think we want to build we go completely in the opposite direction!!! Which is so far ok! I like what you say about women having the last word, as I always have plenty to say in any conversation!!! We have just finished work in Walcha, NSW, on Wednesday and heading to Echuca, Vic, to start back monday. Via Port Macquarie(1nt) and The Entrance(2nts), which is not going to make it easy to go back to work, we love the coast so much. Hope all is great in Victoria!

You never know what life is going to throw at you Ange so just go for it. Do it and enjoy it while you can and while you have all the opportunities to do so. I am in mid thirties (Yes Bonz I officially hit mid thirties this week!) and life has thrown a curve ball and is preventing me from just getting out there and travelling like I want to,, so just keep going with it and make the most of it! and live my dream for me!

Well I've just hit the big 31 and sometimes wonder if I will ever go home. I moved out of my last house in 97 in Tassie and now find it very difficult to stay in the one place for more than a couple of months. We worry that we may never want to live anywhere because we want to live 'everywhere'!!! Although being 'homeless' for 11 years does have the advantages of forgetting how to use a vacuum cleaner, mow lawns, cut wood, wash bloody curtains/walls etc and iron. Although now we've got the van I do have a couple of metres of floor to clean etc. etc. but I can ease my way back into it gradually, haha!!! What was your curve ball, hopefully nothing too bad, but one day you will get to see it. My mum has only just started travelling now she is 50, and she loves it so hopefully you'll get the chance too, and before you're 50:-)

Hi,
We haven't started our journey as yet (5th November) however we have just sold our home, we have owned a home since 2002 and its not all its cracked up to be!!!!! do what makes you happy. My family all think we are nuts, we have 2 children (they are home schooled) we plan to work our way around OZ, we have no time plans and if we live in the van for the next 5 yrs then so be it. Life is too short!!!

Cheers Matt & Caz

Well I would love to be starting your trip with you on the 5th, instead we will be working in the shearing sheds near Echuca somewhere, starting on the 3rd. I hope you guys have a ball and I know your kids will love it. My brother has 2 kids and I wish he would do what you guys are doing but it doesn't look like he will ever leave Tassie with them. I am so excited for you guys it is going to be so much fun. 5 years in the van sounds good, no lawns to mow just move on to the next place! What sort of work are you planning on doing on your trip. We will probably spend May-June-July driving from Perth to Brisbane but we aren't even sure yet if we are going to Perth at xmas, we will probably make our minds up the day before, which is about what we do all the time. Sometimes we'll get to a T junction and toss a coin to see which way we'll go, of course that is when we are not at work!!! Have fun anyway. I've only just started looking at this site so I'll have to keep up with how your road trip is going. Take care.

Hi,

Yes we are all looking forward to it especially the kids they will learn so much, we plan on doing any kind of work from fruit picking ect Matt is a qualified mechanic and I am a qualified massage therapist so we can always get work in those fields. We are the same in regards to where we are going ect - we have worked out the first few thousand k's but after that who knows!!! thats the beauty of it I guess. We will probably staying in one place for a few months and work, then move on.
We too have just joined this group, it will be good to keep up the communication line!!!!

Take Care - will keep you posted
