pajero starter motor

hi all i have a2002 3.5 ltr petrol pajero. every now and then when starting hot and cold it will give the impression like the timing is advanced. i mean like it will hesitate , any one had the same issue or any answers ? cheers

There are 2 stages to a starter motors operation, first the solonoid engages the pinion with the fly wheel as
well as operates a set of contacts which provide high current to turn the motor.
If you hear the solonoid engage but the motor fails to turn or is hesitant then it is usually the contacts that are burnt. These can be replaced if you are able to get the starter out easily otherwise a starter recondition is sually about $100.
This is general info and not pajero specific.
