This photo came around on our email network today entitled "An Australian Road Hump". Details say picture taken near Gloucester in NSW. I've seen large pythons on the TV in Asia (and Boa's in Sth America), but something this large here?? True or not?

I also received this photo and I can't see why it wouldn't be true.

Nothing to say there isn't BIG snakes here...I've seen big ones, but not this big :-)

I agree!

Carpet snakes can grow that big. I have seen snakes that big but not at Barrington Tops but I believe it is very plausable

I would say NO.
1. Can not find anything in the reptile books that would be that big in NSW.
2. Vegetation looks wrong.

Only my 2 cents worth

Here in the NT we have pythons that big - I have seen even bigger. Of course, I don't know whether they live in the colder climates. Do a Google search for habitats; python; Australia.

Hi All

Geez it's a Big One, just amagine tripping over that in the scrub,
or going behind a tree to to take a leak, and seeing that, whats that saying about Pointing Percy at the Python, lol lol.

Cheers

does look about right including its thickness as anacondas are the heaviest snake. would be out of its element though as they inhabit swamps.
not right up on my foreighn snakes but i have no doubt it is not a scrub python or olive python (australias 2 biggest) '
and not any other type of australian snake............................................ except maybe a king brown

Looks like an Anaconda to me and I agree it doesn't look like it is in its natural habitat but then again neither was this one in Fiji.

Bloody hell Mate !

Hope I don't run into that one, whilst out in the bush!
Recon I would be slipping in something, that really stinks, and it wouldn't be from the snake either.

Cheers
