Hi,
I'm eyeing a lightweight Royal Flair caravan with a tare weight of 830kg to be towed by a 4 cylinder, 2.0L Subaru
Liberty (smaller engine than the standard 2.5 Liberty/Outback) with a kerb weight of 1400kg. I'm planning to have a weight distribution hitch put on as
well.
Assuming there was an average load in the car and caravan, would this be safe towing?

Garbage, I reckon it could be ok when van loaded up - bit marginal though. You find when van about same weight that you dont feel so in control. Suggest you follow car manufacturers recommendations (for insurance if nothing else). cheers JD

Basically it boils down to this
If the ATM on the plate on the van exceeds the manufacturers
recommended towing capacity You may not legally tow it with
that vehicle.
Doesnt matter if its full or empty thats the law.
As Ive said before it cost me $23,000 to be wrong

Alsp remember that the towball weight is part of the load in the tow vehicle and must be allowed for
Eg load capacity 300kg Ballweight 100kg
Means you can only put 200kg in the car including fuel You and the load
