Hiya Guys
I am about to order a ARB Deluxe Bull Bar (color coded) No i just received my monthly 4wd action mag with winch comparisons..Now i have been eyeing orrrf the Premier Winch for awhile now..As it turned out it won the winch comparo...Now does anyone own one of these and what are your thoughts...The Warn was the best for keeping out
water (bone dry) but was very power hungry...
Oh i went to the 4x4 show on Sundee and was very quiet except for Mr Yibbata Yibbata Folks (Rexy) the local foghorn !
Cheers in advance...
Hope everyone's
well !

Do not know about the Premier Winch, but my Warn's have been unstoppable.
Well not all the time. Sometimes have to take off the cover and clean the leads - other than that they get treated with no respect and have always been there when needed. If they are much the same price, give the Premier Winch a go, the review said they were Tops. Cheers Tony

Have had both, currently run a Premier - didn't choose it as it came with the used LC HZJ105. Can't fault the Warn and the only hassle I've had with the Premier is the "cheapish" hand control - I've had to beef it up a bit with basic maintenance. I often use snatch blocks because if the 'cruiser gets stuck - it is definitely in some pretty hairy terrain and the premier has coped with everything I've asked of it, it has been dunked regularly too.
Prefer Warn for absolute reliability though.
4x4 show was good Saturday, bloody expensive though - not entry - but getting out - cost me a small fortune, ended up buying a camper, upgrading from my 20 yr old self made/Campomatic style.
Cheers

Fitted a Warn 9.5 two years ago and apart from maintenance on the terminal connections I haven't had to touch it.
Seems to keep the
water out and I am very happy with the performance under heavy load.
Havn't used a Premier winch but I would prefer to stick with a known performer.

Hi Rod,
They all seem to keep the
water out but have you pulled yours apart and had a look at what sort of condition the grease is in, or whether there's been any
water in the motor? You might be surprised.
Unless the motor housing has been rotated on installation, most of the time behind Australian winch bars (different mounting to the way they were designed to be mounted with the feet down in the US) the drain holes are positioned to let
water in and then not let it out.

Just got the new 4wd Action (prev 4wd Monthly) in the mail.
They've done a big winch test with about 8 or 10 different
winches. Very interesting results.
None of the Warn's - and many of the others - completed the test.
I've got a Warn 9000 but it's been modified to fix some of the problems they identified in the Winch test.
I don't think there's a winch out there that doesn't need to be serviced after it's been underwater. Good to see someone finally put that in a magazine article.
Give Mal at Leslies a ring in Heidelberg West and see what they say/recommend. They are the ones fixing them all the time.

Warfer,
I have a Premier ~ 2 years. It has worked v.
well on the few times I have used it. When I bought it I opened it up to have a look at the quality and check the grease. Was impressed by the quality and the newer technology. The brake system is a big improvement.
I also have a TJM Ox 10000 (No 3 in the test) on the troopy which works ok. Is rather noisy. Have not used it in anger yet. Rather wish I had bought another Premier but I was trying to keep the $s down. Hope it does not turn out as false economy.
My concern with Warn is that whilst they used to be the benchmark years ago, they seem to still be a very old design and not improved with modern materials and technology. I had a Warn in the 70s which lasted 10 years before going bang - split the gearcase.
cheers
