Sir Kev & Darkie
I have just found on the LCOOL site that Roachies is having some issues with the Chevmissan
He has posted on the LCOOL site the following
"Oh, the shame of it all.....
I'm a die-hard Patrol owner but my GU is powered by a Chev 6.5 litre V8 diesel. At the moment it has a standard GU cooling clutch/fan combo with a Brunswick Diesel "home-made" radiator. Last summer it tended to get a bit warm, even after I had the brass radiator taken out and rodded etc.
So, I've been speaking with Brunswicks again recently and they said they now fit a FJ75 clutch and fan combination as these are a much better set-up than the Nissan equivalent. (note: that doesn't surprise me at all, so I won't be worried if anybody says anything!!! haha)
I've just paid Brunswicks $200- + $ 12 postage for a brand new, genuine clutch, but was wondering if anybody has had any experience with the ebayer seller "roodogs" as I am going to fit a fan from them. At $45- (postage included), it seems like a lot better option than a genuine toyota fan (at around $200-). Even if I had to replace it once a year (if it looked like it was detiorating etc), it would still be a decent option. So, does anybody have any experience with roodogs, please?
Cheers
Roachie"
So look out Roachie will be down to see Mr Toyota very very soon to put a deposit down on a new 200 Series so he can get a V8 Diesel that won't overheat LOL
Cheers Kev :))

John, LMAO!!
Bruce, that little 2.8 would hardly move the big Nissan.......OHHHHH!!! you were talking about the cooler sitting atop the 2.8 being a big help hey? (stirring again mate)
Roachie, lift your game buddy. If you are going to resort to Yota parts, do it in private mate, you make it too easy for the Patrol bashers.
Cheers to you all from NQ.
Trevor.

Cheers Bruce.

Me thinks that someone is having a lend!!!! As if I'd be likely to even LOOK at the toymota site, let alone join it or post anything on there..... perish the thought!!!!
No, it seems someone is trying to set me up........ that's the only explanation i can think of.
Cheers

Okay, thought I'd better come clean...... hahahha
Yes, I have just fitted a viscous hub for the cooling system. The new hub is a genuine toyota part for a FJ75 (3F motor). I have mated this with a Roodogs fan.
The viscous fan and hub that were on the chev-nissan were the original Nissan 4.2TD units, now 8 years old and a bit suspect.
Brunswick Diesel advised me that they have found the Toyota viscous hub to be a better option.
Seeing the old and new side by side on the work bench, I can now see why the Toyota unit should be better.....it is a much "meatier" hub.
There was a aluminium spacer on the motor which married the Nissan hub to the front of the chev's pully. This had to be removed and then the new hub fitted straight on with a minimum of swearing and skinned knuckles. Thanks to Luke for your advice about how to stop the pulley turning while I got 4 of the Allen head bolts out of the spacer unit......
Now I'll have to wait until the next really hot day to see how the temp goes......

I'd still go for genuine 'Yota' parts, Roachie. Many parts sold on Ebay are cheap copies of the genuine stuff.
At least if you put the genuine in and you have problems, then you know it's the Nissan design and not the bits :)))

For what little it may be worth.
Back when I investigated a Chev 6.5 for the 80 series including a trip to Brunswick and a chat with the lads there, I came away worried about overheating.
I was pretty keen on a turboed 6.5 and they tried REAL hard to talk me into the naturally aspirated - due to problems encoutered up north in the
Pilbara with air conditioned / Turboed 6.5's.
So - while in the
Pilbara and talking with a diesel fitter -
well renowned in the area - he suggested to me theres an inherrant fault with the 6.5's that the Brunswick guys being located so far south in the cooler southwest - haven't yet discovered / realised.
He says that the engine design has too small an oil capacty in the sump, to deal with the
water jacket designs ability to shed heat thru the radiator.
He claimed that, IF they would just increase the sump capacity a few liters with some wings welded in and add more volume with an aftermarket oil cooler (another couple liters) - and even add some bypass filtering for another litre or so capacity, that the relatively small sump capacity could be increased enough - and the oil cooled enough, to easily cope with the high temps in the
Pilbara.
Relying on the inadequate
water jacket surface area for heat exchange in that particular engine to keep a relatively small amount of sump oil cool - just won't work in the temps up there.
One summer day last year was 48.5 C ambient temp - 44 degrees is a regular occurrence in the monsoon season.
The Chevs COULD be a good conversion IF they would increase the oil capacity and cool it.
Because they don't they get over hot and leak oil like a seive which is why they have such a bad reputation as a conversion with turboes and in the heat up north.
Take it or leave it for what little it may be worth.
Cheers

Hubby has brought stuff off Roodog a few times (mostly wheel bearings I think) and was pretty happy with the service.
