Hi all. I am looking at fitting a pyrometer to a 12HT 60 seris, what units are recomended? i was told the non didgital types were too slow, plus i would like to be able to set an alarm. Also is it ok to position this down strem of the turbo? and if so is there a set distance required?
Kind Regards
GN

I have recently fitted a pyro to my 105 series.I fitted a AUBER digital unit and its fast, more or less instant. Most thermocouples are mounted post(after) turbo in the dump pipe due to most coming with an adaptor already welded into the pipe.Just need to remember that temps. pre turbo may be up to or more then 200deg's hotter.

I am about to put one in as
well and I found this site.
http://www.thermoguard.com.au/prices.html
shows how and where to put it, I was able to take the EGR stuff off my motor and I think I will be able put it where they show for the LR 300di.
Cheers Bruce

Thanks Nick and Isuzumu
I have been looking at the thermoguard unit and it does seem ok. I was wondering if there was anything better or not.
Was there any reason you selected the AUBER unit Nick?

Price was the main thing, I got it off Ebay America for $70.Thermocouple kit and clamp fitting(From Thermoguard) was around $120.The one thing about the Auber unit is there is heaps and heaps of options you can get it to do, from turning on over temp lights to turning on a cooling fan at a certain temp plus heaps more.Flicking digits seem to catch your eye more than a needle on a gauge too.

I've been looking at this too. Ian at Thermoguard was helpful & replied promptly to my emails. I just don't like the old LED display.
There are so may LCD displays around these days that look smaller & neater. That's all that put me off.
I'm still looking and may end up doing my own thing. I haven't had the drive to do anything further recently, but the new exhaust I've ordered is plumbed for it so I'll do something about this soon.

Ian (thermoguard) is a top guy who takes loads of time to describe his products, shows concern about international deliveries and even offered to refund a probe that I didn't need. No affiliation etc - would be difficult unless I was his African distributer! I positioned
mine downstream as I was too excited to remember to tap my manifold during a turbo install, and too lazy to take it all apart. Kept it pretty close - about 1.5 inches, Ian's one logs maximums reached but no alarm, but my theory is that eventually you get the feel for what your engine is doing after using the gauge for a while. Every advise I received was 520 downstream, but haven't come close yet.

GN, I use a ISSPRO colour coded gauge, very easy to check at a glance. Got it and the probe etc from a mob in the states. Google is your friend. JohnImage Could Not Be Found
