Hey,
Thinking of taking our offroad camper trailer in Nov08 to Moreton Island and would love to hear from anyone who has taken a camper trailer and how it went. This will be our first time on the beach with the trailer.
Have heard from a few people, a bit hard pulling a trailer on Moreton but need to hear from anyone who has. Cheers.

Shouldn't have any problems if you've got the experience.
We did it a few years back with no problems.
You say it will be your first time on beach with the trailer, Just make sure you let down your tyre pressures to suit the conditions.
Advisable to take an air pump to inflate tyres after you have let them down. Hope you have plenty of experience driving off road and adjusting tyre pressures.

I have towed on Moreton heaps of times and it is all good.. there are some soft parts of tracks here and there but overall it is no probs... I would suggest a tyre pressure of 18psi to start with and that should get you through most parts ok..

The trick is to make sure that the tyre pressures are down before you get off the barge as I have seen many a fourbie bogged 20 meters after running off the ramps...

The only thing scaring me off taking the camper to Moreton these days is the cost... for a family for a week with the trailer it is something like $450 before even getting sand on the tyres... ouch!

Hi,

Took a camper trailer over in September. Ran 20 psi on the front of the car and 25 psi on the back with 35 psi on the trailer - 16" AT tyres. Never got bogged. Middle track through the island is okay and we heard they maybe grading it soon. On the beach you should not have any problems. Getting off the beach e.g. Bulwer Bypass can be tricky. Pick you line before you drive it and keep the power on and you wont have any problems. We pulled a couple of 4WDs out and their tyre pressure was two high. If possible get the tides right and drive on the beach as much as possible.

Let me know the area you are camping and I can give you some more info on the best way to get a camper trailer there.

Do you any great camping spots on the island you could recommend to us?? We are taking our 4yr old and 15mnth old and want to make sure it's all pretty safe and not too close to other campers/cars...

Hi,

Like the other folk have said, get your tyre pressure right and keep your revs up with good gear selection and all should be good.

Just remember to have your campsite prebooked through the EPA as that is how you have to do it now and keep in mind to take spare fuel if you think you will need it as it is currently not available on the island.

We have been taking various campers over there for a long time without too many dramas.

Enjoy your trip
