Have for the last 2 years being driving between Geraldton Carnarvon every 2 weeks.
Last Friday was early so stopped for bite at the Overland Roadhouse. Unfortunately was dreaming inside the shop and it wasnt till back in the car that I worked out I had been charged
$7,30 for a Can of diet coke and a Mrs Mac sausage roll, which ever way i added the 2 up it's very expensive. Cured me of stopping there I'll try Wooramel which has new owners who I believe are very good.

We stopped off at Wooramel RH recently and the cooked breakfast was excellent, cooked to order and reasonable price. They also give seniors discount on fuel too.
Overlander, in my opinion, have always been a rip off ! Maybe because the Greyhound stops there so they know they will have regular custom to rip off !

Whim Creeks barra burgers are legend of the Pilbara.

Don't expect it to last however.

The Whim Creek Mine own the pub now - and life expectancy of the copper mine, with the new chemical extraction process is only about 18 months. The Pubs run for the mine by ESS services - the Mining Sector Supply company, as a wet mess for the mine staff.

Mine are actively looking to sell the pub off - you cannot for example get fuel there any longer.

At this point in time about the only hope for the long term survivial of the Whim Creek Pub - is if the new proposed/under construction magentite mine (Aurox resources?) goes ahead, and buys out the Whim Creek Pub From the Whim Creek Copper Mine.

They have their driling rigs going flat out up there so hopefully the magnetitie mine goes ahead and maybe the Whim Creek pub will get a new lease of life, otherwise expect it to close anytime soon in my info.

Shame - after t was flattened in Cyclone John back in 1999 and now rebuilt - to see even more of the states history about to dissapear for good.

Cheers

I couldn't speak too highly of the Whim Creek pub.
Stopped there a few weeks ago, as our guide book said they had a caravan park. Hah! The whole operation has been taken over by the local mine, and this is their HQ, with dongas and trucks everywhere (the actual mine is a few kms away).
But we asked at the counter, and the woman confirmed that there was no caravan park, but when we said that we were in tents, she said that we could camp on the grass by the beer garden. How much? Free, she said! Well, that was it, we pitched our tents forthwith! Decided that because they were so hospitable, we'd buy meals there, and then found out that we could either have a pub meal, or get a meal in the mine mess (same building). $17.50 got us all we could eat, with the standard of usual mine operations (read: excellent). Next morning, paid $10 for breakfast, which was equally as good, again all you could eat, with every conceivable breakfast dish you'd want.
Full marks, Whim Creek!

Stopped at the Bakers Hill Pie Shop this arvo,

A potato top pie, 2 sausage rolls and a 600ml iced coffee .....$15.40.

Local pub does a T-bone + all the trimmings for $2 more.

Didnt feel alone when I noticed a truck driver come out behind me looking at his pie then at the change in his other hand, cussing under his breath, something about not stopping here again.

Cheers.....Lionel.

On the other side of the continent a few weeks ago we found ourselves just outside the coal mining town of Glenden in central Qld. due to my travelling companion having a bent axle on his trailer. We sought accom. at the Caravan Park which is owned by the Newlands Mining Co., and as a result got a cheap,$12.00, nights accom. with fantastic facilities, and the evening meal in the miners mess for $13.50. Everything you could possibly want to eat. Will be checking out more miners messes on our travels in the future. Cheers all.
