Watched the Aussie version again last night and I must say it is not really improving. They do try hard but are limited in what vehicles are available for testing etc. Hence the endless display of the same car doing the same thing.
Another big problem seems to be the video format used, I do wish they would sick to one format, Sometimes 4 X 3 sometime 16 X 10 and sometimes the really wide one 16 X 9. I guess as there is about 15 or so different formats available they may as well use a few different ones. I just wish they would stick to the same one.

I once watched one episode of the Pommie version.

Once only. Interminable.

I rarely watch TV, the odd sporting event perhaps, but I find my leisure time too valuable to waste watching some overpaid dills standing in front of a camera.

Hi Guys,
Top Gear Australia is a formula show, and follows the same formula as the UK version, so it's quite predictable.

It's light weight and is meant to be a "tongue in check" view of motoring. IMHO for that it succeeds.

You have got admit the stunts with the Audi boat, the Toorak Tractor etc were so staged that you just had to laugh.

The interview with Shannon Noll was interesting as he talked about his life growing up on the farm and the early days of his career.

What is also good, is that there has been drives which show off the Aussie countryside.

For what it is, my wife, kids and myself enjoy it.

There is certainly plenty enough doom and gloom in the real world at the moment to appreciate the welcome distraction of programs such as TGA.

Cheers, Mal58

I just wish they would tie the presenters arms down, if the show was seen in 3D, it would like they were trying to drag the four viewers they get into the TV.
It was in the news last week that SBS were happy with the audience share, and the show would go to a second series.
None of the presenters seem to know how to use a 4x4, and if you have nothing else to do when it's on, check out the absolute bored looks of the poor bastards in the audience.
Cheers

I've tried hard to like it, but gee, they make it hard. I understand
that it isnt meant to be taken too seriously, but the weekly donut
session in a car so expensive ,its a dream, is becoming boring.
Even the so called red V blue thing was crook. They couldnt even
match 2 V8s !! (or V6). I see that the audience has plummeted from 900k to below 500 now. On a commercial channel it would
be already dead. Bit of a shame as there is not much on the box
for the motoring fan... unless you are a fan of that numbing US
circuit crap...at least Ozzie V8 & others turn both ways.
cheers....oldbaz.

Yeah...I guess it is not up to the pommie standard, but I still watch because there is not much else to giggle about.

Also I think it would be difficult to find someone is Oz with the practiced wit and acerbic tongue of Jeremy Clarkson. If you have ever read his books or newspaper columns you'll know what I mean. The other two complement his style without being clones. By contrast the TGA TV hosts are still raw and untutored...or practiced or polished.

I like it. I reckon it's good entertainment.
I get to drool over some funky machines, and have a few laughs at the same time.
Much better viewing than all those seppo sit-coms, reality shows, and singing/dancing shows and all the other carp that they love to bombard us with.

Just wish they would tell the bloke with the mullet to stop shouting and waving his bloody arms all over the place.

Cheers
Glenn

We like it also, theres been a little bit of 4wding in each show - but to be fair theres not much in the way of competition that it has to beat.

They seem to try hard and get nowhere. It's a real step down and out from the pommie version which itself often relied on its presenters rather than the material.

I've tried to watch the Oz version - but now permanent switch off

I thought I would give it a fair go and to be honest I think the main presenter is the problem, you know.. the older guy who keeps yelling at us... no personality, no appeal, no idea and my god his voice is horrible... I think on the segment"what were they thinking" they should put a picture of his face up there.

Other than him I think the show has a chance, the other two guys are knobs but that is what makes a show quirky....... however I think my patience has worn too thin and sadly I don't think I will bother watching until the UK version comes back on...

My family and I watched the first program and were not impressed. So decided to be fair and watch the second show. Sorry folks - load of hogwash, turned off and watched the immigration/customs and the Force behind the lines - Far more realistic an enjoyable. Gone to You Tube to watch TG in the UK. This TG in OZ will go belly up. Audience figures are falling like a a Qantas 747 falling out of the sky.
