Got to be a worry when the factory fit tyres last longer than the big ends!

Geoff,

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

"Dangerous?
Nissan hasn't issued a recall of these vehicles because it says it isn't a safety issue. "

They've got to be kidding !!!

Big hearted 93,000 miles warranty, big deal, that's only 150,000ks, that's nothing. Any modern engine , petrol or diesel should last at least 400,000ks.. Nissan have to be joking.. If this 3.oL engine is so great, why are they changing it in the next major revamp, thats if it ever comes to life!! I have my doubts it ever will !!! Michael

Truckster

Had the Patrol put on a Dyno yesterday, and in chatting to the garage owner, he showed me a D22 yesterday, with motor out of it, and in a thousand bits.
As I used to have a D22, and it was the same garage that tweeked it, to perform rather well, and he got all the "turbo lag" out of it.
Then there was the story with the engine..... he said, that he has never seen such an abomination of an engine. Literally hundreds of bolts, and pipes running everywhere.

Correct me, if I have this bit wrong, but the head gasket is just metal and 2 tubes of glue, on an all aluminium motor ?
(I hope I do have that bit wrong)

And yet, they perform reasonably well. Just too many bits to let go.

Cheers
Bucky

I thought this problem was solved by 2003?

My dad has one of these 2005 mod. He is retired and towing a van around Australia. How are these retired hard working Aussies going to pay for this to be fixed??

I have a D40 and the problems with this model is endless. Nissan are in denial with this model also.

If Nissan screw good 'clients' of theirs I will make it my religion to bad mouth Nissan at every opportunity.

Problem is, that not all Nissan's cause problems.
Do not get me wrong, Tojo's play up too. But it's just how you are looked after that makes the difference.

Now my next door neighbour had the 3.0 Lt Patrol, an 03 model in an auto, and he has dragged a rather large caravan all over Oz, with it.
He is a retired mechanic, and he loves the thing, done 185,000 and never missed a beat. One thing he tells me, that you must change the oil every 7500 km, and every 5000km when towing, weather it need to be or not, and the filter.

He recons that by skimping on oil changes, as those little motors are really working hard. The other thing is that you can really only use the recomended oil in them. And he often wonders if people just slap a Safeway special oils, in their 3.0 TD (whatever) and have never read exactly what specification of oil is really needed.

Or is he just one of the lucky ones ?

Cheers
Bucky
