Could be fuel vaporising , old Len Beadell had that problem with his Landrover in the hot WA Outback, he poured
water over the fuel lines around the Carby , of course yours wont have a carby but still could be the same problen of vaporisation in the heat, You need to look at getting more air in there , have those Tritons got a bonnet scoop, the 2005 had one.

On checking my folders I see the 2002 and 2007 models do not have scoops.

Had a similar problems with a cars over the years.
1. Turned out it was the coil. When it got hot it internally broke down.
2. The fuel filter was mounted under the bonnet next to the fuel pump. The filter was before the pump and when it got hot the fuel vapoured in the filter and the pump was not able to clear it. Fixed by swapping the hoses so the filter was after the pump.

G'day Michael
This is a simple fix that should get you out of trouble! Buy yourself some stainless steel & asbestos heat shield plate and bolt it in between the fuel pump, filter and lines & the main engine block and head. It sounds like the heat from the engine is vaporising the fuel before it gets to the injector pump and rail. I had this problem years ago and this fixed it!
Good luck mate and happy
trails.
Ian
