I know its probably been posted before but I have a 98 100 series cruiser with 190km and I’m considering putting a turbo on it some people have told me make sure you get a brand with the correct spool speed(was told around 2200rpm) but is that brand specific and that the turbo’s cut engine life in half any one with actual knowledge I would love to hear from if you had one fitted for a good amount of time and so on I want the old girl to last me a good amount of years but also hate changing down gears on hills

My GQ has the 4.2L diesel, which is relatively similar to the Toyota I believe. I put a turbo on it at around 275K's and brought it to life! If it is set up properly and you watch your EGT, you shouldn't reduce the engines life. (I am happy to be corrected here...) I bought mine from Turbo Glide at Russelvale CLICK HERE and couldn't be happier! Do your homework and you'll be happy too!

Cheers

I had my last 79series fitted with a Denco turbo at 140,000k and had a great run out of it.No problems and a big increase in performance.I would fit one if I had diesel 100series.

Ditto to above.
'97 1hz fitted with T28 Garratt at 150k.km.
A great increase in torque from around 2000rpm, plus went from 16l/100km back to 14.5ll/100km towing the van.
Around 11.0l/100km not towing, with excellent accellerator response.
A modification you will not regret.

Hi

Im going to Turbo my 2002 Troopy after driving my mates 105 he put on a Denco system aswell as a Intercooler the bloody thing flys and with the Intercooler the EGT isnt a issue at all and im thinking if you dont go mad with the fuel you shouldnt have a problem with engine life its all about boost pressure and fuel keep both of them down and it will go forever.
The Denco boys tell me ill go from 96kw to 135kw and from 285nm to 420nm without the intercooler you get 125kw and 390nm so my advice is find a good diesel man and spend some money

Put a safari turbo on mine and there was a increase in fuel consumption but a big change in performance which is a good trade.

My 1995 80 series cruiser, with a 1Hz, had a Safari turbo/intrecooler on when I bought it. I beleive it was installed from near new. It has approx. 250k on it now. It is great. Heaps more grunt than my previous 105 series.
I had some overheating issues in the beginning. I replaced the std exhaused with a 3" straight through. The overheating is as good as gone. Sometimes in hot weather (above 40) it still runs a bit warm when towing the campertrailer at highway speed up larger hills.

Just put a DTS turbo on our HZJ105 and boy, what a differance. Its simply amazing.Just back from its first trip towing the camper and couldnt even tell it was behind the cruiser.Hills that normally had us back in 2nd we went over in 4th.Havent worked out fuel figures yet but believe they are still about 14lt/100km.We have a top mount I/C, 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust, turbo set at 10PSI and EGT's maxing out at 500deg post turbo.

I have 1HZ 80 (250K) with DTS turbo+3 inch exhaust. Do not listen to rubbish – just do it. I would do it with any new normally aspirated diesel in blink of eye.
