I used to be able to copy and paste a web address that was on any post. Now when I left click on an address I get a cursor "+" rather than a "[" and a box with "clip and print " on it
next to the blue highlighted address. When I go to "edit" on the tooolbar, the copy option is not available but there is a dot against 'HP selection" which I can't remove. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix it. TKS

TKs Doug, Yes that's what I used to do. Now I only get this strange shaped + that drags across the address and a CLIP PRINT box comes up . I can't right click to get anything else like a copy function. The EDIT part of the toolbar has the COPY and PASTE functions in grey (Unuseable). Something has gone wrong.

To elaborate:When i go to the URL in post 63116, before I left click, the Cursor is "I" but when I left click, it becomes a "+". If I drag the cursor straight across,  the URL does not highlight. If i move the mouse down on the URL, then it goes blue. Previously I left dragged across the URL, got a highlight, went to EDIT on the toolbar, got COPY, dragged it up to the top of the page and pasted. Then selected SEARCH.
Is this problem related to the change of government?

Try highlighting and then using C to copy and then V to paste where you want to paste it.

Without anything selected does the dot appear against HP selection?

Can you deselect the HP Selection in the menu?

Cheers

Tks will try. Yes the dot is there even if you haven't selected. Cannot deselect the HP SMART SELECTION function on the EDIT toolbar. The dot won.t change i.e it won't go away, so the COPY and PASTE functions are not available. If you read above I have given more detail to Doug of what is happening.

Here's your problem:

HP Smart Selection

Ctrl+Shift+S turns it on/off

Tks Ross. When I do Control +Shift +s, it changes the preference from HP Smart to standard selection but does nor reinstate the COPY and PASTE selections. I thought it had something to do with my having hooked up a HP printer temporarily so I have been to the printer control panel and deleted this printer. This did not change things. I have a suspicion that this printer hookup produced the problem.

Hi wigger

I had the very same problem with my HP laptop earlier this year, turned out the Hard drive give up few weeks later, new HD, did not cost me a cent, as it was under warranty

OOOOH AAAH
I shouldn't get news like this. Will keep my backup right up to date just in case. Don't you think that it could have something to do with the Rudd government?

IT definitely Rudd fault!!!!!!

I found it pays to have the extended warranty with PCs, in the last 6 years I have paid for 2 lap tops , still have 2, 1 is 6 months old , the other 18 months old with a new HD, I think have had a good run for my money.
