I have a clip missing from my air cleaner. One of the 3 clips that secure the lid to the bowl.
It can't just be replaced because the plastic bit that holds the clip is buggered.
Has anyone else had this happen and if so did you come up with something as a fix?
I know I can buy another complete assembly but I believe they're pretty expensive!!!
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
If it's a short term fix, a roll of gaffer tape judiciously applied will seal the lid till you find the right things.
It may be worth a phone call or trip to a wrecker to see what is available.

If I recall correctly, the main purpose of the lid it to hold the large air filter down and in place over the intake, so yes some gaffa tape would do the job, but keep an eye on it if you are in any dusty/dirty areas to make sure the tape holds

Had a similar issue with my late Jackaroo - a dork who fitted a
snorkel for me (mainstream after market supplier) lost one clip and said nothing - unobtainable as a minor part - wreckers wanted to sell the completed assembly too (fair enough) ..........seeing the lid doesn't come off frequently, I secured it with a cable tie and just cut them each time I went in there - fortunately I had an upper and lower flange there with holes to run that cable through. Quite strong as a fix too.

A 1 inch tech screw through the side where the clip was located but make sure that you get both the lid and the side and that the lid is firmly pushed down when you put it in.
I did this in my 105 and it is still surviving after many thousands of km in corrugations and bulldust.

I have a 1998 100 series and had the same problem. I just screwed the lid down in three
places just next to where the clips were. It hasnt budged and seems to be doing the job quite nicley.

Andrew,
Very important to keep that lid down secure, by whatever means. If not seated down properly the air flow mixture is all over the place and the car may start to run rich constantly. A friend had the same clip broken and it caused the vehicle to run badly. It wasn't till put on a diagnostice machine and holding the lid firmly down that he discovered the problem. Tek screw are what he used as
well.
