Hi all.
Seriously looking at a couple of 2004 4.2TD MY2003 ST Nissan Patrols.
I was just wondering how computerised they are?
I see the obvious things like electric windows, mirrors, aerials, etc.
What I want to know is, are they computerised to the point that some simple black box/sensor can die & cause it to not start, or not drive.
I suspect, being even a 2004 model, the electrics are fairly
well embedded already, and there will inevitably be something that could stop me.
We're upgrading from a 1990 2.5TD Pajero, where short of the pump dying, she'll keep on driving, no matter how bad she runs.
Any suggestions on what I should look out for, problem wise, to stop the sale?
Thanks for your time.
Peter.

Very little, EGR valve and some minor things like anti theft and some things you mention,, not too much else!! you cant go wrong with that 4,2 model.

I've got a 4.2 aftercooled TD and no computer, I have had since brand new and new any problems except for no power. Fitted a 3" full flow exhaust and had the pump tuned and can now accelerate in 5th gear up hills towing my boat at 2.8 tonnes. They are great machines, go for it. Regards John

I have to agree on the 3" exhaust.
I ordered the Taipan system from Qld at the 4wd show in Melb the other week. Had it fitted last week in Bairnsdale.
It's a completely different truck.
What's more, unlike other 3" systems I've heard there's no noise penalty. She who is not necessarily obeyed hasn't even picked the difference.... which can only be a good thing. Seriously though, I didn't want a droning or loud system on a touring truck. After a few hours, let alone 8 or 9 it would be unbearable if it droned. But it doesn't and I'm very happy.
Picked up a very healthy 20kW too.
When they fitted it they adjusted the fuel & turbo to suit so it's not just the exhaust though that's a big part of it.
Dave
PS What chip in the sub
tank system?

I think what Vince is talking about is the black box up under the dash that controls the transfer of fuel from the sub
tank to the main. every now and then the s/t light will come on and stay on, and no fuel will transfer. to rectify this just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and all is sweet.

Hi Vince, Tell me about the chip in the sub
tank system. I have had no problems yet but it is good to be prepared for it. I do plenty of river crossings and want to be ready for problems. Your rig sounds like a interesting machine. Regards John
