Duane A,

IMHO Thomas River is the best spot to camp, close to the beach, and not too far to Seal Creek, Poison Creek, Mt Ragged etc.

The CALM or DEC campsite was burnt out when we were there so maybe have to use the Shire campsite, not as good as DEC's but still quite good.

We pulled a C/T and had no trouble at all, water is limited so take plenty. Plenty of snakes, so watch out.

The council camp site at Thomas River is FREE. The CALM one cost ya!. Roads were good when we were there last month.

We camped at Isralite Bay last year near a fishermens hut and the old Telegraph Station. Track was very sandy with plenty of water holes when we went through from Baladonia but a trailer should be fine.

Agree, better-sheltered than Israelite Bay.
Also fresh water from a small bore in the dunes there.
Also consider Thomas Fishery, on the eastern side of Cape Arid. More camping spots on the road out to Poison Creek as well.

Just did a follow-up with the ranger from Cape Arid NP; the council campground at Thomas River has now been taken over by Dept Environment & Conservation and is a good camping spot. The original CALM campsite on the hillside is history following the fires a year or two ago.
And Thomas Fishery, out at Cape Arid, while not really recovered from the fire of about 5 years ago, is open and is still a nice spot, with your own private turquoise bay. There is a small soak there which provides fresh water.
Seal Creek campsite, towards Poison Creek was unaffected by the fires and is a great camping spot, just back from the ocean and sheltered and with a rainwater tank.
There has been a lot of rain out there recently, and tracks are very wet, but this should dry out by Jan (hope so!). Any salt lakes, like the ones near Israelite Bay, and south of Pt Malcolm could be sticky and best avoided. In both areas, a track runs thru them.
I hope to be out there in about 3 weeks, so will hopefully update this info on my return in early Dec.
Cheers,
Gerry

those salt lakes are very firm and seemingly unaffected by moderate amounts of rain at least

Just west of Cape Arid, have you considered looking at Duke of Orleans Bay (Alexander Road)? The 4WD entry track keeps most of the crowds out so if it seems too crowded elsewhere give this a try. The place is really beautiful but is the otherside of where you want to explore. Depends on how long you like to stay at the one place and which end you're coming in from.
