I spotted a show on the box on Saturday, Pat Callinan's 4x4 Adventures.
It was a reasonable show, very much like getaway and not much 4x4 adventuring.
They were on Fraser Island and next week they are of to the Gulf, probably will have another look this week.

I think he was the editor of one of the 4 x 4 magazines.
What channel was it on?

Hi there
It was on Ch 10 @ lunch time
More of a touring show than 4x4, Driving a Kia i think
His only advise on beach driving was to keep the speed up and watch for high tide. no mention of tyre pressures
Its not too bad but was expecting more

He's the former editor of one of the major magazines. I can never remember the name of it, the one with John Rooth in it.
You've pretty
well summed up my thoughts on the show.
It is doing one good thing, showing people what 4wd travel is really about and hopefully changing some peoples pre-conceived negative notions.

I've been watching it for a few weeks now and it's not a bad show. He gives a fair bit of good info..some rubbish, but mostly good and helps the brain get going a little now and then :-)

I watched some of the first the other week ......
Was pretty difficult to work out when the show stopped and the ads came on ... and viceaversa.
Some good things in it ... overshadowed by the excessive sponsor support.
Typical american style advertising where a group of products are selected and then a story is made up to pretend you are being done a service with an information program.
Pat Callinan has done better things ... it was a bit of a letdown IMHO.
Was also a heated issue about him and his involvement / career change on 4x4 action
forum ( or one of those ) - was bigger than the moderation debacle ... LOLOLOL

I still think that he was better than Glenno, in the production of the mag and especially in the DVDs. Pat comes across as more of a "bloke" where as Glen seems to try a bit too hard IMHO.

Agreed ... Tour Boy
Callinan comes across as a more " real " person / presenter than some.
Good news for all though ... apparrently
Malcolm Douglas is making a comeback ... lol
Now all we need is the Leylands.

I don't think
Malcolm ever stopped, they just don't air them anymore. You can but them from the croc farm although they arent cheap!!
The leylands that I remember growing up were good, busting axles and clutches in
the desert. A far cry from the caravanning garbage with their son in law that they show every now and then.

can somebody post when and which station this is on please?
Sounds a bit like 4x4 monthly free dvds - a ton of ads to give the programme something to relate to.
Still, better than Home & Away

Blokes,
A national TV show has to cater for all kinds.
You have to remember that shows like 4x4 Adventures have to attract advertising dollars to survive.
If that means dumbing down on some aspects, so be it.
I reckon any exposure to 4wd touring,
camping, etc HAS to be better than Australian Idle, Dancing with the Stirs, etc.
cheers
Gary

like said earlier, the show is on saturday and yes it is shown at 12.00 o'clock (here in
brisbane anyhow). it's only a half hour show so blink and it'll be finished.
yes it's full of advertising, but it does show some quite nice
places, and it's alot better then watching most of the other crap shown on telly. alot of people on different forums complain about the advertising style of showing the products, but if you just let that bit slide then i'm sure you'll enjoy what's not a bad show if you take it for what it is.
