All i drive on now is coopers but that is a personal choice, some love some hate them, bit more expensive but worth a look Cooper ATR are probably the best for your situations

Have run Yokohamas on two Pajeros and had no worries.

Currently on what will be my last set of Yokohama tyres EVER.
Using the newer ATs and totally dissatisfied with the the wear rate. Was recommended to run at 36psi and they had bad heel/toe in 5000ks Now running at 46psi and while that appears to have fixed one problem the general wear rate has increased to the point where I doubt if I will get 30000 from the set. Yokohama is aware of my dissatisfaction and it seems that I am not the only one unhappy

We may have bought from a bad/defective batch but that is not my problem.

Had a set of Pirelli At's Prev version of ATR's they were OK on a Patrol

Only did highway driving but they were lasting OK

Have a set of Yokohama HT's on my Cruiser and wouldnt have them again.
Admittedly I pumped the back ones up a bit hard when I was towing but chewed about 2 mm off them going from Brissy to Yamba doing a bit of touring around and returning.
Was in a hurry with a big van on.
The other two now on the rear have done 30,000 almost and still have about 4-5mm on them.

Am changing over to BFG AT's in January before heading off around the block.
Some comment on Pirelli's on the 4x4 action forum recently.

Some not good some very good Usual forum threads.

Hi there.. I have Pirelli ATRs on my Disco 3. I used to run Cooper ATR on my last 4WD, but could not get them for the Disco in 18 inch.

I really love them. Most of my driving is 90% bitumen, and I find that the ATR's are better on the road than the Cooper.

Off road I am not sure if I can notice any difference, suffice to say that I am happy with them is the best I can say.

My only gripe with the Coopers was that they didn't grip too well in the wet on rough bitumen.

In summary.. I would buy Pirelli ATRs again.

Cheers

We have just a done 7000 klm trip on Yoko 265 65 17 ATs most of it on Gravel, 5500 towing a 1800kg caravan, several 4WD treks in the Flinders Ranges and some highway speed work also without the Van and I am very pleased with the performance, no noticeable wear, no punctures and no loss of traction that I did not expect, I will recommend Yoko.

Neighbour has the yokohama Geo's on his 92 pajero, very happy with them and so far have been great off road and belly out really well at 16 psi when we have been on the beach. They also have a brilliant warranty. If you tear the side out, stake them or blowout they will replace Aussi wide (well thats what they say anyway) he hasnt had to try the warranty part of it YET. I have the bfg's but are L/T's and have a very side hard wall, No issues with punctures but I find they dont belly out enough even at16 on the sand and have dropped them to 18 off road to climb some real rocky stuff and found they dont belly out enough to really grip the rocks. Other than that no issues. The geo's are definately quiter then the bf's. Id be temped next time to get them will see how he goes with them and how many klms he gets out of them. WHG

hey Mark

i'm running GO12's on my Paj as well and i'm very happy with them. Good handling on blacktop and in wet conditions and excellent on gravel.

i've recently finished a 5K trip around the Pilbara, most of it on gravel roads and was very pleased with their performance.

cheers

isnt it great that technology has given us so many wonderfull products. the biggest decision is which ones to buy LOL..

If you take care of them, vary your pressures to suit the conditions, rotate them and balance and wheel alignment [kept current] any decent brand will go the distance,no question about it...

back to the argument,,,BFG's /// just do it... ROFL...

where are you planning to go with the tyres ?

of the 2 brands you mention id go for yokohamas at's,but buy a air compressor and tyre gauge.. i bought my compressor from bunnings, cost $50 and its pumped my 4 tyres about 35 times thus far,no funny noises etc yet...
ask the yoko dealer for recomended road/dirt/sand pressures.
i run road 35-40,dirt 25-30,and sand 15-20 psi.

you'll see a lot of gung ho 4x4 drivers jump straight into offroad conditions with street pressures....take the time to adjust your pressures, then plan enough daylight after your trip to reinflate your tyres.this gives the family a great time to stretch their legs and have one last look at the terrain before you head back to town

enjoy what aus has to offer...rod
