Passed a gaggle of army 6 wheelers coming out of the Northam Barracks this arvo.

The rear of the vehicles was enclosed and the front completely open, no doors only a windscreen.
The driver and his passenger were seated ahead of the front axle.

Almost looked amphibious and didint half go.

They werent unimogs or truck like in appearance but did seem heavily armoured.

Couldnt spot any badge denoting a make, so, could anyone please enlighten me as to what they may be ?

Cheers.....Lionel.

Sounds like a LAV (light armoured vehicle) 25. They sort of replaced the M113 armoured personnel carriers (APC's) you will have seen in the Vietnam movies etc

Ya beat me to it. Saw them going down GRT Eastern HWY, 3 6wheelers and a much smaller 4x4. Maybe replacements for the Landrover LRPV,s 6x6 that the SAS and probably other units use. I think they have been in use since the mid 80,s along with the 4x4,s.

Were they a gaggle ?

If they were amphibious they could have been a school.
If flying along the highway they could have been a flock.
If travelling slowly they may have been a convoy.

Enjoying too many reds

sorry I can not answer the original question.

Redeye.

Not the Bushmaster - they're part of the new family of vehicles replacing the 6x6 LRPV. They are the British-made Supacat - named the Nary here in Australia.

lololololol

Due to the lack of text enhancements and smileys etc ... had always presumed links and images were out as well, for a lowly " visitor "

Never mind ... have had a good look at the bottom of the reply box and will ... from now on ... provide " Y generation " one click viewing instead of using the effort taking five click process.

Thanks for bring the option to my attention ..... cheers.

ASLAV i think they are known as, but i could be wrong, seen many of them on the weekend while visiting my sister on base at the Robertson Barracks in Darwin. Was alot of really cool stuff there i must tell ya, but not as much as what i reckon that they deserve to live a life like theirs, Much respect for Defence personnel.

The ASLAV is pretty much a tank without tracks.

The ADF is presently trialling various vehicle types to replace their vehicle fleet. The ASLAV that the ADF has are an eight wheel configuration, so I would say they are not ASLAV's, they would not be Bushmasters as they are an enclosed armoured vehicle.
