G'day. Thinking of heading to
Freshwater Campground the week before xmas week and was wondering if others can advise on likelyhood of crowdedness and other good info. Have got a 2 year old and hope it's not too crazy. I've read about it usually being pretty full on in January up that way but wondered opinions on first week of school hols?
Cheers

We're heading up there from the 24th- 2nd. I know the place will be packed from the 26th but we should (hopefully) get a good pick of the sites on Xmas eve and have a nice peaceful, in-law free Xmas. ;)
If you actually go through the motions of booking a spot and selecting the days you want you can check out the availability calendar on the
EPA Website. They have categories for Tent & trailer sites, make sure you select trailer site if you need it. Currently there are only about 5-6 sites booked, which seems low. I would expect it to be reasonably full in that period but it will still be 200 times better than
camping on the main beach where some guys take great joy in setting up there ablutions meters from your tent.
Make sure you take a good supply of $1 coins for the showers.

I was up that way for the week before xmas 3 years ago.
I was OK until boxing day, then it became feral for the next 10 days, the
population along
the beach trippled.
Keep a close eye on your 2 yr old, some of the morons that run up
the beach think nothing of blasting thru family groups on
the beach at 100kph. The much vaunted credit crunch and fuel prices may have a minor impact on how many go this year.
Book your site early, as in now if you can.
Hopefully the weather will be better this year as last year was a disaster, wet ,windy, huge surf and not much beach left.
Enjoy your trip, its a great area.

You might find some more info on the ausfish forums.
From sometime next year, I think, there will be a permit required to drive on
the beach there. This should hopefully reduce the number of ferals.
