Hi
I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Waeco CF 80. (After reading many threads on the topic)
Manual tells you how to set up etc but doesn't recommend a temperature setting. I'm sure the are plenty of you who have one and can give me some advice.
I plan to use with dividers in as a fridge and freezer and the thermostat reads the temperature from the freezer compartment.
Any advice appreciated

I would suggest you get a thermometer and test the temp at various
places in regards to the setting.
If the setting of, say +4, is at the bottom near the cooling element end, you can be sure it will too warm high up at the other end.
My 80 is the old one without the digital temp setting. Using it as all fridge, the way I set it, it goes from -3 at one end to +4 at the other. This for me is ideal, grog at the cold end, meat in the middle and less sensitive items at the +4 end.
Also you have the "dairy" section; good for fruit and veggies as it sits around +8 to +10. Why they call it "dairy" I'm buggered if I know, I certainly wouldn't store my cheese there.

But once I work out what tempratre it is at, I need to know what temperature do i need to get the freezer down to to keep my meat frozen. Ie what temperature in the freezer department should I be aiming for.

The technical temp for keeping meat frozen is -18 (this is for long term storage), but for
camping trips anything that keeps it solid will do, -10 is more than low enough.
But, what you need to do is work backwards. You need to have the freezer set at whatever it will take to get the warmest part of the fridge to +4. I have generally found that this requires the freezer to be at about -15.

I have the same model and I set it with 3 or 4 green lights on for most of the time. It does depend a bit on the outside air temperature so in the NT and north QLD I set it on 4 or 5.

I do the same as this in Far NQ. When on 240 I set it to all the lights (Freeze) to give it a boost.When on the batteries overnight and during the day I use the 4th light. At that setting it will hold pre frozen goods for the trip (last one six weeks meat down the bottom was still
well kept/frozen. If I put unfrozen fish/meat in the freezer side it will soft freeze on 4th light and harden when I put it on the genset for the freeze run.
I hope yours is a s good as

I set my cf-80 to -12 to -15 depending on ambient temperatures and power Battery versus 240v I use the freezer to keep meat frozen and works
well But have noticed that most of the time if you want a
well chilled drink out of the fridge compartment then I need to completely remove the top divider reducing the size of the freezer but keeping fridge section cold
I have toyed with the idea of drilling holes in the top divider to see if this helps a more even distribution of temperature while still using the full freezer section.
I have found my cf-80 to be extremely good and a little experimentation with the dividers will see you with no problems at all the temp setting does also vary as frozen goods are removed ie as meat is used up then the setting needs to be lowered as drinks then start to freeze with very little frozen food in the freezer I set at about -10

I have a waeco 80 with the digital readout and when we head off we use it as a fridge freezer as
well. I set it to -10 and i find the meat stayes frozen and the drinks are nice and cold. In the heat of summer you may want to crank it up a little more. I start the fridge a few days before we are heading off so it is working just right by the time we load it

I generally run it flat out (-20) while on mains before geading out and while the car is running, then wind it back to -15 when stopped. we get a couple of daus out of 1 battery this way. we also defrost any thing over a day or so in the so called dairy compartment -- this helps the fridge end keep cool.

I don't own a Waeco but will be looking at a new fridge around Xmas time hopefully. Some of the replies about changing the thermostat setting when it gets hot outside concern me though. With my present fridge (Reefer) I neverhave to alter the setting regardless of ambient outside temps, if i set it a 3C it cools to that regardless,which IMO is how a thermostatically controlled fridge should work. Is there a problem with the insulation in newer fridges?
