Oil grading

Morning all
Could anyone explain the meaning of the API CD, CE, CF etc. grading of oils. Everyone I ask gives a different answer, so I'm hoping there might be someone who is knowledgeable on oils.

And whilst you are checking them out take note of 'JASO'.

Most of our vehicles are Japanese design / origin but VERY few of the available oils meet that standard ! (Caltex Delo does).
