Had a wonderful 2 weeks in Fiji, lots of sun, VERY freindly locals, Crazy drivers though, Cars are expensive Try $48000 FJD (about $38000 au) for a 1994 80 series with 200,000 kms on it!!!
Fuel is Government regulated price and guess what EXPENSIVE. Our system works better, leave the gov out of fuel prices. Its just amazing they have so little but yet are so happy and friendly.
I will go back someday
Cheers Stefan

It is a wonderful place. I worked there for two years in suva, and had a terrific time.
Cars are horrifically expensive there because the Government does not encourage motor vehicle ownership, so they tax the things to oblivion. They don't want to build better roads :)
What I thought especially nice was seeing the Prime Minister on my way to work having his morning walk, not surrounded by a stack of security guards.

Hi Stefan
Just a question if I could, is the car hire expensive over there? Ive heard that food etc is (and obviously buying a car and fuel). Or is car hire not needed?

I paid about $82 AUD for a Toyota Yaris for 1 day. So not to bad
Locally made food is really good value, where as imported goods are through the roof! IE Masterfoods BBQ sauce $10 for a 500ml bottle!! But 600ml Coke at servo for $1.60 cause it is made local.

I thought that would be quite expensive for car hire - I guess not over there though.
Thanks for the details on the food. A friend went there for her honeymoon and said it was quite expensive. Im not sure where she stayed though and she obviously didnt live on Coke.

Resort food is REALLY EXPENSIVE ours was an 'all included deal' so it was good value, but we still went to a
supermarket and bought nibbles ect there cause the hotel extras were just too expensive.
Hope that helps.....if you are looking at going, google the 'naviti resort'
