qubert, my guess is probably less than half that as when used as a sling I assume it's doubled over as distinct from single line pull.

it looks like an endless loop, and i think its rated at 10 tonne lifting capacity, but looks like it would make a good tow rope for me bogged tractor in the wet season

Probably better off with a drag chain mate. Too hard to look after slings as you can see. They damage fairly easily and are useless (dangerous when used for lifting) once damage starts. 10% is the maximum allowable damage to lifting gear and in my opinion that is at least 10% damage to the outer sling. I would not use that to lift 10 tonne. Whats the weight of your tractor?

Lifting gear usualy has a high safety margin. A 10 tonne polyester round sling would safely pull 1.5 to 2 times it's rated lifting capacity. A lot of winch extension and tree protection straps are just lifting webbing slings. Re-packaged with catchy names and double the price.

But as others have said, they dont take too kindly to dragging around, and can quickly wear out.

Use it, keep it for towing only, and if it shows signs of wear. Destroy it.

Sorry Brenton but the 10T rating is for a single line pull.If it was wrapped around a round object in a basket hitch you could double the tonnage.
For towing you have to factor in the shock loading as well as the weight and resistance to movement ie bog.
Would think 10t should still do it if you were gentle, but snatch straps are better for the extra energy they put in as long as everything else is up to the job.
