Zum ZUM !!, Your a classical case of whats been discussed in a certain way on this forum over the last few weeks! Don't get me wrong i;m not criticising you , BUT really how could anyone answer your question truthfully?? IT could be a gem and go for years!, Or it might be the best serviced thing in the state and blow up the next day after you buy the thing, Ifind it very disturbing when a question like this is asked , and a hundred answers will come in with no real guarantee its any good??

Cheers Axle

zumzum

There are a couple of them at still floating about at work, and in speaking to the owners, who are rapt in the vehicles.

They do a great job, and are very reliable ..

One thing to remember, ( from what I have been told ) they are not as robust as the 4.2 TD models, but will do the job, just the same.

Cheers Mate, and go for it. !

zum zum, I have had one of these and the engine is fragile, as is the gearbox, it isn't the normal Nissan Patrol box, it is out of a car, forget which one. Myself, I would be looking for a 4.2 diesel, you may well regret buying the 2.8. Just my two cents worth.

I think what ZumZum is asking is not about that particular vehicle but what the 2.8 L is like in general. I owned one from new in 1999 -2003 and found it to be quite a good vehicle for on road and towing a small van, good to drive comfortable etc etc. Now the down side, low down torque is non existent. If you are planning any sand driving forget it they are ok when the revs are up and the turbo comes in but you can`t get started to get the revs up. My advice would be as mentioned, look for a 4.2L and forget the 2.8L.....Regards,,,,Foxhound(WA).
