Howdy,

I have the above ac unit in my van,

(currently runs on a 2.4kw gen, but noisy and gen heavy, and as its a cheapie and done a heap of work, I'd rather see it used around the home rather than out on road with us.)

so

Looking at the honda EU20i, initially thought it would be just fine but after a few thread reads on here now thought best to air the question.

I know ideally best to actually run the gen on it, but when buying online, not possible to do. Maybe I should email honda this spec for an answer..

heres my ac spec:

Maximum nominal cooling capacity 2.2kw
Maximum nominal heating capacity 1.9kw
power consumption 0.95kw
start up current 20a (150ms)
current consumption 4.4A

Judging by some of the other ac ratings which members are claiming they run ok on this gen, it looks ok.... but..

Any sparky's / ac techs like to comment.... Nudie??(memNo1)

thanks

Ron

Not sure there is enough capacity there, 2.2KW equates to 2200watts if my maths is correct. (This is the cooling capacity, not sure if the same as required) The Honda is maximum 2000 watts, although you say 4.4amps current consumption which would be fine. Startup at 20 amps is right on the limit.

thanks.

yeah but the 2.2kw is cooling capacity not electrical rating... so I'm led to believe, and the 20a is only for 150milli second.

have emailed honda, but still be interested in responses from the experts here, or even better someone who runs same ac on same gen.

I have a Dometic on my van too, I have a 2Kva Gennie , I don't run the A/C when not in Parks because it has to rev like hell and uses up to much fuel , so I just run a fan , with Fan Fridge, Freezer,TV, PC and Lights it is happy to run just above idle,

Maybe consider the 2.4kVA Yamaha ? - a quality inverter gennie - said to enjoy the same reputation as the Honda for performance and reliability (I use a Yam 1kVA and its a beauty overall)............that .4 extra seems to put the Yam 2.4 at an advantage over the Hondas in that they jump right up to really heavy jobs after the 2kVA model.

Maybe you should contact dometic, there is a soft start kit available to ease the genny pain.
