Hey People,

I am going to a mates for dinner tonight and he is going to get a quote form a friend to weld up a trailer box and drawbar for me, so I can build a camper trailer. Then we will fit suspension and wheels etc.

What size does the trailer need to be I have these basic dimensions are they ok???

7 ' x 4' trailer I think they need to be about 500mm deep, and I want an 1800mm long drawer bar for toolbox and spare tyre.

I am told the trailer needs to finish about 1050mm above the ground.

Are these dimensions right.

Thanks.

The dimensions are up to you, the tent manufacturer will build the top to suit, if you are going to put a pre-built Chinese top on, Oztrail or similar, then you would need to check the required dimensions with the supplier.

Make sure that the axle width is the same as the towing vehicle. It makes it so much easier towing off-road if the wheels are tracking together.

Great Tip Thanks.

Will make sure to measure the car when I get it and make sure the trailer will match.

Thanks

Another tip is to have the trailer wheels compatable to the towing vehicle. That way your vehicle spare wheel can be used on the trailer.

I would check the dimensions with the local authorities.
Last time I registered my 6x4 John Papas trailer they were particuarly careful measuring it in regards to the drawbar(which was factory stock)

Hows it going ,

Just got through doing the same thing , I got a trailer made ( 99% sure it 7 x 4 ) useing the same wheels and ride hieght as the Patrol

I got a chinese tent off ebay , Xtrail , and am really happy with it .
they just come in a standard size , my one fits exactly lengthwise and hangs over a little at the edges , because I used patrol wheels the gaurds had to be a little wider but this is a good thing cause it makes them wider than the tent .

All the dimentions /requirements of the tents are on their ebay ad.
I mounted the tent permanently to the trailer ( no tilt ) and have full length sliding draws out the back .

Also have 12v power and a water tank.

Good luck .

Glenn.

Southern Cross trailers at Penrith,

Yeah just bolted all the pieces together . Took a bit longer than I thought , but took my time to do things properly

Before you get too far down the track, get hold of this book and study it thoroughly.
