Gday - I have a really annoying problem with my 03 TD Hilux - its a constant ticking noise coming from the front end.
Whenever i put the clutch in even a little bit the noise goes away, it will then return once my foot is taken off the clutch again.
So in short - clutch out = constant ticking noise / clutch in = noise stops.
Now ive had some advice that it is probably the thrust bearing, ive done some research and this seems to be an inherent problem in Hilux - so ive priced it up and a new clutch kit is gonna cost me $850 fitted.
I'm now having a few people saying that it might be the Input Shaft Bearing in the gearbox...
Can anyone offer some opinions re this as obviously i dont want to replace the clutch and have the problem still exist.
Is it more likely a clutch issue or a gearbox issue????
Any help would be great.

Have you tried coasting down
hill, with the Clutch out, and the
Gear Box in neutral, to determin if it is a Gear Box issue?.

I'm with Donks on that one.
Clutch release bearing, common as, in lots of vehicles, in fact most vehicles will do it to a small but noticeable amount if you listen for it.
live with it till you need a clutch, which in an 03 vehicle should be a while yet unless someone been drivin it who holds on clutch instead of handbrake... HATE WOMEN WHO DO THAT!!!!

an imput shaft bearing will give you a noticable bearing wine in each gear until you get into 4th ,then the drive is straight through one to one and it is normally much quieter .

Cheers for that - ive priced up a new clutch kit and can get one fitted for $750 - this noise is annoying me that much im willing to pay this to get rid of it...
I take it a new clutch / kit will get rid of it?
What are the odds of it coming back in the near future if i do install a new kit?
