Was wondering, if going to a 4 core radiator will help in overheating?
Before i turbo'ed the cruizer it over heated on certain hills and still does since, even with intercooler.
Have taken head off
cleaned radiator
replaced everything i can think of, still no difference.
Anyone can help me with this one>?

How much is it overheating? Are you only using the OEM temp gauge? If so get a secondary more accurate gauge.

Is the fan a clutch driven unit. If so try replacing the oil and while it's out set it so it kicks in at the correct temp.

Have you tried Lcool forum?

Slammin.

It did on my 12HT turbo. It always seemed to be running hot. I went to a radiator shop to have it flushed out and he told me I may as well just upgrade to a 4 core (what they were supposed to have anyway) instead of throwing money at a flush. Bought a 4 core for $500 and installed it myself - no more problems - now running as cool as no matter how hard you push it.
(Of course my 3 core could have been working inefficiently as well) but in my view a 4 core is what you need for a turbo diesel.
Cheers,

Cold one,
Slammin is right check your fan hub and thermostat. For my money I would only buy genuine hubs and thermostats.
As Slammin says you can refill your hub with Tojo fluid.

Could the overheating be caused by you overfueling the engine. On a hill that causes your overheating ,try running up it in a lower gear and don't flatten your foot to the floor, Keep the engine revs above 2000 and see what happens.

Have a good one

Hey mate,

try a PWR aluminium radiator (made is Queensland), they are probably more expensive than other after market radiators but you will definately not have another overheating problem.
They make a custom radiator to suit.

good luck.

"Been there done that"---Iagree the fan clutch is the most likely problem.

Ok have replaced the viscus fan hub from toyota when i first purchased the ute.
it made no difference to stopiing the over heating.
i even pulled down the old one and it was full of viscus fluid.
as for over fueling i dont think so because it does the same thing when it did not have turbo installed and not much smoke came out of exhaust.
I have a 3 inch mandrel exhaust, denco intercooler water to air.
But i have it fueled up almost to as far as it will go at 14 psi.
only smoke i get is when labouring but on full throttle with revs abouve 2000 rpm there is very little or no smoke.
i noticed it starts to over heat when my exhaust is 350 deg celcius or higher and will go up to the red if i let it.
it overheats mainly on warmer days but if im towing an emty trailer will heat up anytime no matter what the ambient temp is.
So looks like a new radiator. its my last option as i have done everything else.

First things first...... I'd suggest fitting a separate temp gauge with the ability to check the water temp at both the top and bottom radiator hoses.
That will let you know how effective your radiator is at doing it's job (or not). If there is very little difference in the water temp from top to bottom, then it's a fair bet that it is not working to it's designed capacity.
Have you changed the thermostat (or at least pulled it out and bench tested it in hot water with a thermometer to see the temperature at which it is opening?
Have you checked the sender unit that is fitted and supplies the "message" to the temp gauge? Sometimes these are faulty and can give wrong messages to the gauge.

Good luck

Roachie

I recently replaced the radiator in my 1Hz 75 troopy due to accumulated minor damage. Whilst talking with the radiator bloke he asked if I had any overheating problems which I don't. He told me that he has seen a lot of problems with corroded impellers in the 1Hz water pumps over the years. They don't leak but just don't pump enough water around. May be worth checking.

My frustrating experience with ooverheating 75 series 1hz was radiator check/flush (no change), followed by new viscous hub (no change) and then finally thermostat check - faulty replaced and now never even gets half way up the temp gauge. I wished I had approached it in the opposite order - would have saved a bit of $ and a lot of stuffing around.

I had the head off 3 months ago because of oil leak in head gasket.
so had radiator cleaned and replaced the thermostat.
the radiator place said there was only 3 channels partially blocked and would not cause overheating.
he did recomand 4 core as cruisers have tendencys to overheat!
that is why i have posted in this forum to see what others have had experience with.
bottom line, no matter what i did the problem never got any worse or better just stayed the same.
and i will add that it is worse in warmer weather!temp only riseses going up the same hills everytime.
other then that i can iddle on the hottest days for ages and the temp is fine.
ill keep you posted as im getting prices for radiators, but if anyone knows of any good quality and price would be appreciated.
Thankyou
Chris
