Came across this caravan and its proud owner at Cocoparra NP during a bird watching trip earlier this year. The vintage caravan people have been after it for a while now, but the owner won't budge.Image Could Not Be Found

We had one of those in the early 80's, or very similar.
Tall skinny thing. Looked like a hot dog wagon with the beds folded in.
Double bed out either side, very easy to set up.
Due to it being very tall and skinny it towed like a bastard, started to sway at 90 - 95.
Good concept though. I've been giving serious thought to building one.
If yoyu can email me jimbest at bestoffroad dot dot au I'd really appreciate it to get some details.
Cheers,
Jim.

G'day - great picture - my father in law used to build his own caravans - I think we have a "how to" book here somewhere - will look for it if you like - maybe able to copy some of the pages for you if that would help - they were built in plywood I think.

Jules,
You are a treasure. We work with plywood and have all the machinery. What I am lacking is the know-how. Whilst I know I can work it all out with trial and error, the type of book you are talikng about will save me a lot of time and effort.
You can get me on 9706 6527.
Thanks,
Jim.

My mate has just finished restoring a van exactly the same as the one in your photo, can't remember the name of it. His is a 1971 model that had been sitting under a tree at his mother in laws house for many years. It's taken him about a year to fully restore it, he had his first trip away last month. Great to see these old vans still getting around.

Jon,
Having owned one of these myself, I am very keen to have another look at one, as I want to build one using the basic principles but different design.
If you can please give me a call on 03 9706 6527, or 0411 874406 or email me
jimbest at bestoffroad dot net dot au
It would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jim.
