I need to find a normal double bed size inner sprung mattress but with a very low profile, 100mm would be good. Does anyone know where I can buy such a mattress or have any suggestions for a good nights sleep with low profile?
Regards,
LJ

Do yourself a favour, spend a few extra quid, and get a latex mattress.

My GLW has a dodgy back and gets a better nights sleep in our Camper Trailer than on the bed at home. Bed at home will be changed to latex once I get around to building a base.

Cheers,

Jim.

As _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx says. But also look at the latex with a memory foam (also called viscostatic by some brands) layer. Fantastic. Easily the best mattress we have ever had. Lightweight. Ultra comfortable. and if the partner roll over or gets out of bed, no mattress movement to spoil the others sleep.

Hi cascade,
we got our campertrailer innerspring mattress from the site listed below. It's a queen size and about 125mm high. They also make latex and foam.

We have fairly dense foam mattresses (both in the caravan and at home), and for my husband's bad back, they are far better than good quality innerspring. They can be purchased from places such as Clark Rubber stores, in a variety of thicknesses. They are much cheaper than the latex type mentioned by some here.

I'm with Motherhen, although I think our CT mattress may be medium duty foam. Lighter than latex. Very comfortable. Low cost.

Hi Moose

We just got a dense foam one (density 26/160) for my husband's bad back (the one in the caravan is fairly dense but not quite so hard).

After going from innerspring to 100mm foam as his back got bad some years ago, we again tried a good quality innerspring for a few years. He found the 200mm thick foam mattress in the caravan was much better for his back than the innerspring (another good reason to go on holidays more often).

On our return from this trip, we got the new dense foam 200mm thick, and added and 'eggshell' overlay which takes the 'hardness' feel off it. We inherited an 'eggshell' with the caravan which was so good that we got one for home. After this trip it had gone to daughter with the old mattress, so we got another.

This is scary Motherhen. I'd forgotten about our eggshell overlay. Certainly makes it nice and soft on top.
No idea what the density rating is for ours. We went to the shop and chucked a few on the floor and lay on them until we found one we both liked!

Hi Cascade, whilst I agree that Latex mattress' are the dux nuts in comfort- one thing to consider is that they are jolly hot to sleep on. Darned heavy too. doc.

Whilst I know about the eggshell overlays and how good they can be, i was wondering if anyone has tried a latex overlay. i believe they are available in at least 3 thicknesses. not sure how they go for heat build up, sweating etc or even if that is a consideration with them.

Anyone used one of these latex overlays at all and have any feedback on them?

We had a high denity foam matteress in our trakshak when we bought it but found it too hard, so we opted for a low profile inerspring 100mm springs from makin mattresses with a visco foam over lay on one side only to keep hight down ( easier to pack up) we find it fantastic its great to have such a good sleep camping.

Cheers Brenton

Funny how everybody avoids the question & tries to convert you to their way of thinking.
The only people that I can find that advertise mattresses with 'low profile springs' are VANREST BEDS

I didn't like the foam mattress in our rooftop tent, so we swapped it for the thin profile innerspring mattress on our fold out sofa bed. Exactly the same size - double. I would perhaps try some of the sofa places that manufacture their own furniture, they would be able to tell you. If sofa beds have innerspring mattress, they are low profile. Our is about 3".

Hopefully helpful!

Hi

I looked into getting one made from this place

http://www.bedsdirect.com.au/camper.htm

for a std inner sprung was 120mm but they said it wasn't very comfortable you needed to go to the next size that was 140mm
or the top of the range that was 170mm thick that was the pillow top they are in Epping VIC.
I ended up buying the egg foam mattress from clark rubber to try it out.

cheers Pat.

Not sure how the slimmer innerspring mattress wil go but in any case we just have a medium density foam mattress of about 100mm with egg shell foam on top. It is the most comfortable bed I have yet to sleep on and even better that our expensive innerspring mattress at home. Good for my back too.
