There has been a few reports of the rear rims coming loose on GU patrols with alloy rims. I assume the rims have all been the factory alloys. So my question is, has ever it happened with after market alloys?

I always tighten mine to 100ft lbs or whatever that is in metric. (my tension wrench is old like me). I though it was the off side front that became loose.

I have never heard it happen with aftermarket alloys and only read one where it "apparently" happened with steel rim. Read plenty with factory alloys as you probably have too.

I assisted a guy in a GU 4.5 that had aftermarket alloys and had lost its LHR wheel - so can confirm it happens with aftermarket rims! It had been serviced ~400kms earlier and the tyres had been rotated.

IMHO I reckon its due to operator error, but the Nissan rim/hub setup makes it more prone to this issue.

AJB

This has happened to me on the West Gate Freeway at 100k!

See the following post for some background on my case: 34261ll involve the NIssan factory alloys for the 16" alloys from 2002.

As others have said - always use a torque wrench set at 96ftlb and carefully clean the back of the wheel and hiub.

As I've also said many times - NIssan have done nothing to advise owners of this issue. I understand they have told dealers to always use a torque wrench but this should be made known to all owners.

Spread the word!

If you need any furhter background send me a MM.

Cheers

Peter

I to have had the rear LHS wheel shear all 6 studs off at 100 klm an hour. Scary stuff. Asked Nissan for warranty and got the usual "Outside our warranty guidelines". Walked into the nearest Nissan dealer and waited until a lot of customers came in and then started with a very loud voice stating the facts of what had happened and advising people not to buy a Patrol as they were dangerous. Got the results I wanted as the dealer came to the party and replaced the disc and shroud.
Mine was after market alloys
