Could be the sender switch

The oil light is operated by a level sender in the side of the sump (the guage is operated from a pressure sender in the block)

What is probably happening is when the vehicle is parked on a slope the oil in the sump has run away from the sender enough to bring the light on

hey guys

ive thought about the oil running away from the sender, though if it is full it shouldn't do it.i get a bit worried when it does it just in case somthing happens but i guess if it is full it shouldnt be to much of a problem

Had a cruiser few years back now a 4.2 96 model. I had oil sender light problems. In the end the oil pump had worn gears, maybee because it was not serviced too well. I was told/asked then how old my Oil filter was. Wroth a check to see if it is restricting the flow. Cheers tony.

I always check my oil level after running the motor for a few minutes and then fill to the line, check to see if yours is low after running it.
Does the oil pressure drop as well when the light comes on.

hi, the oil pressure is always good, think i will try the let the car run for a few minutes and check the level again and i may put a fraction more oil in it,but i dont want to over fill it cause that can be bad too.

I have a 105 and I have noticed a large difference in checking the oil after running and after it has stood for a while. I also seem to recollect a thread some time ago where someone was asking whether to fill to the line cold or after running and no-one seemed to know for sure.

I also have had the light come on while on a steep slope with the level down just marginally, therefore, I fill mine to the line after running just to be sure. The sump holds 10 litres so I don't reckon this will overfill it to the point of doing any harm.
Cheers
Gerry

check the wiring- when you rip the wires off the sender which is 2 seconds after going offroad the light will go on
i used to say the only thing it indicates is the wires are ripped off
with 10 litres in that sump theres no chance oil isnt reaching it on a slope

mmmm hang on -check your handbook i think your supposed to check your oil when warm. if it is indicating only on full when cold then it is about a litre short

Hi there brentos, mate had a cruiser with same motor and the light would flicker off and on depending on the slope, similiar to yourself. Turned out that because he had an aftermarket turbo fitted obviously with oil running throught the lines etc he had to actually run an extra 1/2 litre of oil and he never had the light come on again. Not sure if you have turbo fitted or not if not then obviously not the problem. Hope this might help WHG

Mine does it too when I don't have it completely full (mine uses a bit of oil). Only does it when on a slope. If I have filled it prior to heading out I don't have any problems so I attribute it to the fact that it's slightly under full and on enough of a slope that the oil has run away from the sensor.
