Hello Allan, my father in law made his own portable fire bucket - works pretty well. See here for details.
Cheers

Alan...I have the inner bowl out of a Simpson automatic washing machine....it is baked enamel and has lots of tiny holes in the side.....is very good and robust and I have been using it for many years now ....mostly at home and it is very popular with our guests who enjoy the ambience of a open fire at night.

Gets dirty, sooty but has very little rust....I think the holes in the side keep the metal reasonably cool....not like half a 44 which seems to burn out in no time.

Hi Alan, I've been looking for a similar sort of thing that is portable enough to take in the caravan and not way a tonne. I have come across this one but not sure how it will handle the heat.....

i use an old 20lt paint tin, just drill some holes into it and cut a hole into the bottom on the side about 120mm by 120mm to rake out old coals and also lets it breath well, you can also cut lines in it with a grinder about 100mm long around the bottem of it if you dont want to drill holes, or you could do both witch i have.

Issue is that they are not able to be used during Fire Ban periods. As a Fire Control Officer I would still deem them to be a fire in the open. Ok for use any other time.

Pretty bulky to lug around.
