Just picked up a used 2002 Tohatsu 18hp.
Apart from a little galvanic action - only 2 anodes!! It seems it may be ok.
I gave it a full service and will tub-test it soon.

The next bit will be the interesting stage, with the Tohatsu at 41kg's, I'm looking at a 12 footer with the buoyancy to handle me at 114kg's and the missus (she's petite I'm not)) but at a Hull weight that the Troopie's roof will handle.

I prefer the Vee'd dinghy's for better seaworthiness in the chop (I wouldn't stand in a punt anyway)

Can anyone experienced in the above, suggest a hull that will fit the bill?

Kind Regards

12ft tinny would be the maximum you would want to roof top. My mate has a 12ft Quintrex with the 18hp Tohatsu. Very reliable and can plane with both of us in it. We are both in your weight division!! The loading and launching will have to be well planned as there is alot of weight to move around.

Thanks jezza,
Mate, your spot on with the loading and launching weight challenges. I carried the 41kg engine 50 metres with the prop tickling my shins and realised some innovation gotta happen here.

The loaders seem too expensive so I will design and fabricate something myself.

Thanks again mate,

I've got a 3.75m (12'4") Topper Tracker by Makocraft (Stessyl) at 78kg Its a fantastic little boat, very stable and dry and I often go out around headlands off the beach in good conditions. I use a 15hp Yamaha at about 38kgs. I put the boat on top of my 100 series and Patrol Ute with tent top camper without any problems using a Jamic Boatlifter.
If the Troopie carries you the boat certainly will !!! Only joking mate.
Happy boat hunting and fishing. John

Hi John,
Yeah, the 'Stessl's' or Makocraft are good stuff and I've heard nothing but good about them. Nice high sides. Jamic Boatlifter - need to look at that.

Thanks

Have a look at these Hunter Marine. They are a little lighter than the others.

Thanks Nomadic One,
Sides are a tad short for up north but the weight would be an advantage.
