Gday,
Just a simple question for the Victorians, are the M80 and M1 motorways, FREEWAYS? or are tolls payable on these roads?

The M1 is a freeway except for the section between Kings way & Toorak Road. This section is a tollway and includes the Burnley & Domain tunnels. For pricing, have a look at this link to Citylink Pricing & Information.

The M80 is a freeway is a mix of the Western Ring Road & the Metropolitan Ring Road. There are no tools on the M80.

Parts of the M43 are tolled. This is mainly known as the Tullamarine Freeway which runs from the city to Melbourne airport. The section from the M1 in Port Melbourne out to Bell Street is tolled.

These tolled sections are run by Citylink. There are no toll booths on any of Melbourne's tolled roads. You need an electronic tag or purchase a pass via the phone or certain outlets.

The other tolled road in Melbourne is the M3. It is freeway out to Springvale Road, the tollway the rest of the way down to Seaford. This tollway is run by Eastlink. For more info on this tollway, goto citylink.com.au

If you own an electronic tag, it will work on all Victorian tollways.

Being a West Australian, these toll roads sound like double dipping

What they are is a user pays road. That way most people who dont use them dont have to pay for them. Govt funded roads are paid for by everybody.

Gday,
And thanks to those who replied to my question. Going by what you have said my planned trip from the Hume hwy left onto M80 then right onto the Greenborough Hwy. Then south to i think its Gardeners Ck or Glen Iris, left onto the M1 from there, and then get off at Ferntree Gully Rd exit then south will get me to Patterson lakes is all toll free. Correct?
Going to the Boat Drags this coming sunday.

Save yourself time and money and use the toll routes. By the time you've taken all the detours and deviations that you plan, you'll end up useing more fuel and time than the cost of the tolls.

I agree. Just buy a Melbourne pass or a weekend pass and get there and back with a lot less stress and fuel. It aint that expensive !!

If you must go Free, then get on the Eastern freeway to Springvale Road, go south all the way to Patterson lakes! Much easier.
