Hi. We use a fridge while away, but are looking to buy a new esky primarily to keep the beers cold. Looks like EvaKool is highly recommended from what I have read, but WAY out of our price range. Can anyone give me info on a techni ice esky? Thanks

G'Day cookie11. Had the same idea as you, have just purchased techni ice camper special. 80L and 40L at really low price
on their website. Have not had the time to try it out yet.

Don't know anything about the techni ice boxes but can recommend evakool fibreglass ice boxes. Evakool are also making plastic iceboxes with insulated walls these are somewhat cheaper. Have you looked at them?

ae 2 Techni Ice eskies, 70l and 105l. Live in the Kimberleys and they do a great job. Got
mine off Ebay, both for under $250 delivered. Probably wont hold ice as long as a $500 esky, but still great eskies.

I've got a couple of tropical (
orange ones) that work
well and are indestructable as far as I can tell. They are a bit cheaper than the fibreglass ones - not as cheap as the techni-ice ones but I suspect you get what you pay for.

Hi Cookie
Forget the hype and get an esky with a proper rating , like the coleman extremes which go for 5 days at 30c.
Various sizes at costs in range $100-$150 , most good
camping stores - gee sounds like an ad , we have both 34 an 47 lt versions and use them to supplement fridge as required.

I will easily get 4-5 days worth of good block ice all year round up here with my Techni Ice, provided its in the shade. And thats with all drinks and food in them, getting opened and closed all day and night. I would love to have a big EvaKool or Tropical esky but they take up too much exterior space for there internal space, and they are heaps heavier, so they become a bit of a problem when used in boats and small cars with alot of other gear.

Hi Kroozer
A block of ice does help doesn't it , but when you have a rated esky you usually have a strange second problem - the block ice takes to long to melt ?
You might like to have a look at the Coleman 100lt version for your needs as it takes less space and is a lot lighter as it doesn't have that heavy boxy poly or fibreglass finish of the others.
However this means that while its ok in a car it wouldn't last as long sliding round in the back of a boat.

We have a plastic wild country frosty esky its about 100ltrs and cost around 2-300 i think. But it works great, fill it up with drinks and ice and 4-5 days later it still has ice. And i usually get very thirsty when I am away so it gets opened regularly!

Tropical.
Good robust construction, works
well, and doesnt cost the earth.
Evakool very good but more exy, with fibreglass being the ultimate, but heavy, expensive, and easier to damage.
We found tropical to be good middle of the road buy.

Cookie,
Eva- Kool are expensive but a great esky and
well worth it in the long run as I use
mine alot and it gets a flogging and still works
well. Its about 8 years old now. Also I did see in there internet site that they had some seconds so give that ago as I wouldn't go passed them, anyway whatever you get I hope they keep your beers cold.
Pistol.

I purchased a 60 litre Techni-ice on auction for $59 from this mob on EBay. Haven't used it yet but it is very strong and
well made. Supposed to keep ice for 5 to 16 days and is guaranteed for 12 years!! Can't really beat that!! And you get freeby ice packs!
