Hi Mark, IMHO i'd leave it alone, they are probably one of the more reliable 3ltr engines, so why stuff it trying for more power.
Would have thought it handled that size van with out to many dramas?.
Cheers Axle.

Definitly keep some weight in the back of it, it will tow the van easily but with no weight it will be a bit dicey, i had a 98 dual cab 3.0 N/A and it pulled a couple of tonne easily(
well within reason!) but having a light bum in them it jackknifed me on a gravel road while i was barely moving. i had a tandem trailer and a kubota excavator behind it manoevering out straight onto the road when the weight of the trailer pushed it around and the bucket pushed the right hand side of the ute tub in. costly exercise i tell you. leave it stock and it will serve him
well i say, just my $0,02 worth. cheers Paul

Hi Mark,
Just get your mate to check out the specs on them as to what they are allowed to tow. My 2004 model which I have had since new with the you beaut Hayman Resse hitch etc is only rated to pull 1800kg.
