Guys,

Help me decide...is anyone else at this stage?

My operating lease is up for renewal in March 09. I gotta decide what car to get next.
A. It has to be new
B. Its gotta tow my camper trailer through the sand on fraser
C. Its gotta be able to handle the rocks out the farm
D. Its gotta have more than the usual 5 seats
E. I dont car about the petrol/diesel prices, as I get that free
F. I drive out back heaps of times and need something reliable
G I dont care for leather and fourby's made for the city driving.

Anyone have any ideas? I have 3 kids 2 of them teenagers so we cant have a small car. I think the prado should be fine and that 180litre fuel tank...hmmmgreat when Im driving in the territory. (i have a fleet card for fuel and not all garages take it) Im thinking there may be others out there who have researched the new car and might have some hints.

Im not too happy with the new cruiser..over priced or what?

Looking forward to your suggestions

yeah just a couple of reasons...
extremely expensive
smaller fuel tank - down to 90 litres
rear 3rd row window doesnt open
no gear stick to change from high to low...instead you have a button???

the car seems to have been modified to fit driving around town, rather than the bush..

Well zha zha, if you don't want leather, then the only cruiser you will get is a GXL and that has a sub tank making total capacity 135l from memory

I would get the Prado.
The Discovery might fit the bill also but I have no personal experience with them

Most of the buyers of vehicles in this class never go offroad except when parkings short at the weekend markets.

I think you can pull the sidesteps off for more clearance .
Maybe there is some aftermarket types that do a better job.

You might get a few more centimetres with some more suitable tyres which you will need anyway if you want to tow offroad.

The turbo diesel Prado is about as good as you can get for your job description. I have a mate with one (grande model) and with the adjustable height/ride suspension it goes everywhere our lifted 80 series will go with huge fuel range. Bloody good vehicle!!

Yes the Prado would certainly fit the bill although I would avoid the Grande model as we've seen the air suspension have trouble carrying heavy loads in the past. Plenty of proven options available to make the vehicle very capable offroad.
Cheers Craig..............

Not my pic of vehicle either but apart from the Troopy...the 70 series has a wagon as Reggy has mentioned.

Might be worth a look!

My vote is Prado..from your description of requirements.

Matt.

Have you considered the 76 Series Toyota wagon with the 170L long range fuel tank? Foxhound(WA).

Zha Zha,

I'm on my second Prado. The current a D4D Gxl is a great vehicle with no warranty claims in the first 20,000 klm including a 7000k trip to central Oz. The only weakness is that you may have to upgrade the suspension if you put a steel bar/winch on the front as it sags.

Cheers

Kevin

Yeah, I like them, but there isnt very many dealers around Brissy...and that makes me wonder if it might be hard trying to get a service on one...

Cruiser,

Not sure what your lease arrangements are but in most cases they have a residual subsequently the Prado is the way to go due to high re-sale value in comparison to the others.
Also a bloody good vehicle too boot.

Cheers

Corio,

It will be a fully maintained operational lease...

I just hand it back in 3 years and swap it for a new one.

I can pick a residual if I like, but I dont want the hassel of trying to sell it. so I just hand them back.
