Go here and have a look at Data dots.

http://www.datadothb.com.au/

For $99 you can mark all your goodies that you have and if they get stolen the numbers are on a worldwide data base that the police can access .

You can have the dots customised with your own code if u want.

Thes are almost invisible and there is enough in the can to do a few places in your vehicle as well.

A very sensible idea and even the stickers can be enough to discourage the lowlifes

I do wonder how many scrap yards bother to scan for these ?

Great idea but do they work in the real world ?

Wasnt thinking of that more like good stuff that they steal and pawn. I have my laptop, camera ,all the lens, Waeco, TV , set top box DVd recoreder and other stuff thats in the car all done and have prominent stickers to hopefully keep them away.

These must work as several car makers are doing it standard on some models. Eg Subaru and I think Lexus as well. Anything is better than nothing and eventually the insurance industry will catch up and be aware of these.
I asked Suncorp and the guy had never heard of them.

Sort of the same as the OK/25 stickers you see on cars to say the driver should be over 25 years old, another great idea but most people including cops don't know about it ;-(

If car manufacturers were serious they would include this on every new car !

The power company's are currently spraying all their copper cables & drums in stock to deter theives. An amazing product as even after it has been burnt it still registers on the scanner.

Maybe so but not a lot does stop the original theft especially if its in a caravan annex.

It is nice to think though that you have a better chance of getting it back.

Think positive. Anything helps and is worth a try at least.

They are a great idea. Many of the German makers have them as standard. The reason other manufacturers don't install them is the extra set up time on the line.
In Tassie DataDot will be available thru Neighbourhood Watch for about $25 from January 09. I believe they will be offered thru NHW in other States as well.
All cops in Tassie will be have a special magnifying reader given to them to check sus items.
How many of us keep records of our electrical gear, etc? Each person buying DataDot has the number recorded on a database and the cops can check the ownership very quickly.
I suggest if you are interested that you check with your local NHW to see if they will be involved.
