Whats the law nowdays in regards to towing another vehicle?
I mean with a solid beam or such. Gawd years ago i can remember towing a mate for 50ks with a bit of twine it broke a hundred times but we got home..lol. Tilt trays take care of most things now, but just wondering if you can tow another vehicle at all?.
Cheers Axle.

Here in NSW i'm pretty sure you need a solid bar to tow anoter vehicle. I've never seen one in use though, as everyone still uses a rope lol.
The assume the problem was muppets who cant keep the rope tight by riding he brakes and run over the tow rope. But then again, without the towed car's engine running it wouldnt have power assisted steering or boosted brakes...

In South Australia its no longer legal to use a tow rope. I've had to hire a car trailer in recent years to pick up my kids with broken down cars.
But the local rentacar firms use an A-frame on their Diahatsus to deliver their 4wds. Plenty of buses around the country do the same.

Thing is, if you can tow a car with a bit of twine and get it home without causing any grief, then so be it. The cops will not hunt you down if you are towing, they may stop you and give you a "warning"...but most of them are OK as they know what it is like to break down.

In SA and maybe the rest of Australia you can only tow another vehicle with an A Frame , as long as the broken down car isn't more than 750 Kgs.
If the broken down vehicle is in a dangerous position tow with a rope to the nearest
Parking Bay
It's only the traffic Cops that really would pull you over the Average Copper wouldn't know the rules unless he or she were told.
If in case you had an accident then your insurance company would not pay out your damages and the Allianz third party bodily insurance might not pay out either
